I'm sure this will change in the future, but my fondest memories shooting were when I would go off into the woods down an old logging road in the PNW with my Ruger 10/22 and a hand gun. I'd bring something to eat and drink and a brick of ammo, and make a day of it. I would plink away for hours...
I have a 30-30 Marlin 336 that I could use as a brush gun but I'm thinking of getting a Ruger Preditor in 6.5 creedmore.
I don't think the 6.5 would punch through brush like a 45/70 might but it's a fairly light compact gun with a good cartridge .
I have an Axis in 30-06. It shoots about an inch with factory ammo. It could do even better with hand loads. I had trouble getting accuracy out of at first because of the stock and trigger but that was mostly my fault. I got mine for $200 at Walmart. It outshoots some of my brothers $1000...
With my Marlin 336 in 30-30 with factory ammo and open sights I can get 3 inch groups pretty consistently. Sometimes 2" groups. With a scope I get 2" groups consistently. With handloads and a scope I can get 1" 3 shot groups.
Thanks for reporting what happened to you. I'm just getting into reloading and after reading this I'm going to be extremely careful and hopefully I can avoid an explosion like that. I'm glad you didn't get hurt worse.
I agree with what some have already said about the club having armed security. Allowing customers to carry guns in a place where they are expected to consume alcohol and dance sounds like a bad idea to me. But having unarmed security seems like asking for this kind of thing to happen.
I hope...
I got a thousand rounds from sportsmans wear house near Seattle for $0.06-$0.07 per round. Not as cheap as it use to be but a lot better than I've seen it before.
I got rid of a:
Marlin 336 30-30. Sold it to my brother because I never shot it.
Mossberg 500 12ga. Got tired of shotguns.
Ruger SP101 .357. Too heavy to CCW. Sold to my dad.
Glock 22. Got it just to try out a Glock. Didn't like it.
Springfield armory XD40sc. Reliability issues.
S&W M&P...
He doesn't hold a high opinion of Savage rifles even now, so maybe hes just biased. I'm glad you disagree as I've always liked Savage refles and the older ones are cheaper.
A friend of mine who use to be a gunsmith before he retired told me that the early Savage rifles were junk compared to the current model ones. He was talking about the ones made around the 70s-80s maybe 90s. A little research on the Internet turned up a few issues but nothing notable. He said...
Thanks for all the replies everyone. As for the people defending the gun shop, I believe your wrong: As far as the low price I was quoted for the M&P, I've sold more than a few guns to a few different gun shops and never have been offered much lower than about 70% of what it's worth on the used...
I'm not sure if this is the place this goes, but I went to Federal Way Discount Gun today in WA state to buy a used rifle, and I'm really dissapointed. The salesman was pathetic. I basically had to try to force any info I got out of him about the rifle, he acted like he new nothing about it one...
I'm thinking of buying this rifle and seeing how I like it. If I get it and don't like it, do you think I can sell it for what I put into it ($370+tax)?
Sorry if that's not the right question to ask here. I have been away from forums for the most part for a while. I just want to make sure I'm...
I've been looking for a new hunting rifle and I found a savage 111 in 7mm Rem mag with a Bushnell scope for $375 new, on sale at my local sporting goods store.
I've done some research but I honestly don't know a lot about rifles. I looked online and this rifle is going for around $550 at...
Thanks, I just got a new Nikon Buckmaster 3x9 for a pretty good price and a beat up old Leupold vx2 that I've been wanting to try out. I'm definitely not in need of any more scopes right now.
It's probably a decent scope but it having a scope on it puts it over my budget. If it sold with no scope I could probably afford it. I will probably end up buying a used model 10 with out a scope.
I just feel like I'd be paying way more for a cheap scope than I could get out of selling it. I don't understand why they insist on selling rifles with scopes already on them. Its like they're forcing you to buy a scope if you want to buy a rifle from them. Maybe I don't want to have a scope on...
I've been looking all over for the last couple months for a place that has for sale a Savage model 10 that doesn't come with a scope. All I can find are the package deals which is not what I want. Is that all they're selling now or am I just looking in all the wrong places?
