    Birthday AR15 buildout; $2K budget

Show him, and the freezer since hunting is the purpose, you care and go 6.8 SPC.

M1 carbines jamming; extractor problems; spring kit advice?

My Inland did the same. I thought the extractor was okay but did not have anything to compare too. The part was cheap enough I went ahead with ordering a new one. Old v/s new extractor; it was painfully obvious this was the problem. A quick swap and never had another extraction issue.

    308 vs 6.5 Grendel vs 6.8 SPC

6.8 spc is great and getting better still. Meets criteria listed well.

    6.8SPC vs. 6.8SPCII confusion

No need to be confused. If you have an improved chamber 6.8 (SPCII, ARP, Noveski Mod 1, SAAMI II, etc), you can shoot any off the shelf 6.8 SPC ammo and safely handload a bit hotter. If you have one of the few SAAMI chambers (Remington, LMT, Ruger) you can still shoot any factory 6.8 spc ammo.

    Are floating firing pins safe?

Model 92, no. The hammer hits a plunger in the safety which in turn hits the firing pin. 2 things have to happen: The safety must be off for the plunger to engage, and trigger must be pulled to lift the firing pin block out of the way that allows the firing pin to protrude. Most modern semi...

    AR Newbie 300 blackout question

What theory is a 125 BO getting 2400-2500 fps? A 110 struggles to get to 2400.

    AR Newbie 300 blackout question

More than 5.56 but not BO. The VorTX load that is usually the yardstick for BO performance is extremely expensive.

.300 AAC Blackout with suppressor and subsonic ammo for deer hunting?

To sell more crap. Now you can buy optics with multiple aiming points for dual ballistics and stock up on twice the ammo. Gee whiz talk about suppressed shooting makes more shooters want suppressors.

.300 AAC Blackout with suppressor and subsonic ammo for deer hunting?

You don't remember correctly unless there is a yardstick barrel. Drop almost 1000 fps otherwise.

    Are floating firing pins safe?

I did not hear the LG video claim it was a danger of the floating firing pin inertia, but of releasing the hammer and there being no firing pin safety. A good sear/hammer engagement will prevent this ideally, so it becomes a "what if" situation about mechanical wear and impact shock.

    AR Newbie 300 blackout question

That is how I started with the 6.8 SPC. I would swap uppers with the 5.56, but first chance on a deal later when my gun fund caught up, I built another lower. In your case, please be careful to not mix your BO and 5.56 ammo since the 30 cal bullet has trouble making it down the 22 bore.

    6.8 spc question

"Significant" is relative, but operating pressure was mentioned above so case capacity/powder burn rate/bore ratio is a bit better for the 6.8. Probably how Hornady does it. Closest apples/apples I am aware of. The 6.8 still outpaces the x39 from 4" shorter barrel. Hornady 122gr x39 from...

    New AR - Help Requested

Without drifting the thread too much, as an avid 6.8 spc shooter I have to disagree. The 223 is extremely accurate so I couldn't say the 6.8 is more accurate, but can be as accurate. Long range is relative too. Its focus is more about increasing lethality from an AR without sacrificing accuracy.

.300 AAC Blackout with suppressor and subsonic ammo for deer hunting?

There is anecdotal use of subsonic BO killing medium game. Sure, if you like a hole in something it will/may eventually die (cns hits aside). These bullets don't expand and have pistol trajectories. I don't buy the archery comparisons so often injected into this conversation unless they are...

    6.8 spc question

What rbernie said, the 6.8 is not a "just use 270 bullets" cartridge. Typically you want .277 bullets of 120 and less (down to 85). Previous to the 6.8, that diameter was 130+ with a few varmint options at lighter weight (Sierra 90 varminter) that was typically a 270win handloading option only...

    6.8 spc question

True, the 6.8 was designed as a killer rather than paper puncher. With the bullet weights and obtainable velocities, it puts it around a 300 yard medium game cartridge from a carbine. That .277 SMK isn't exactly new though, and was one of the bullets used in early production ammo circa...

Idea to make AR15 more pleasant

I looked at your previous posts to get an idea of what kind of rifle you were comparing to what kind of shotgun (ie, 16" rifle to 28" shotgun) to attempt a better response. Rifles will typically always be louder than shotguns for a few reasons, but the little flashhider on yours is probably not...

CZ BREN 805s are coming in!

I really want to want one. Love the Vz.58 and this is a great evolution. I will have to fit this in the same category as the other new rifles; nice, but not worth the cost for me right now. Now, if that 6.8 SPC conversion ever materializes...

    6.8 spc question

Is 6.8 spc a military cartridge? Technically, yes, but not standard service in the US military. Special use in a few mid-east "friendly" nations and rumors elsewhere. How is it for hog hunting? Reports are great. Military Arms Channel was recently introduced to it in the linked video and...
