    Nickle plated gun care

Well, is the model 94 nickle or whit gold pated? Seems I am not sure. The carbine is a Theodore Roosevelt Commemorative. I looked in gun trader and winchester manuals and they state that the carbine is white gold plated. Various other referances say nickle. I dont know how to tell the differance...

    Nickle plated gun care

Yep, the internal action parts are steal and the bolt is of corse steal. Only the reciver shell, hammer and trigger are nickle. The receiver shell is plated inside out out. This along with the butplate and forend cap. As you said, nickle is soft. I do wonder about the hammer face to firing pin...

Got her all cleand and lubricated today. She is ready to head for the range. Hope to put a few shots down range on tuesday. I have owned and used many, many firearms over the years, but, this is my first winchester. I must say it is a work of art. The nickle plating and octogon bull barrel are...

    Nickle plated gun care

Thanks for all the good input. Guess I will give Breakfree CRP a go. What about those places where a brush or rag cant get. Areas like hammer and trigger action. Is it ok to just apply a few drops in such places and let it work its way in as one would with remoil or the such?

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

Bluehawk does have a great sugestion. I have read nothing but praise for Cabela's customer service. And they do have great prices. It sounds as though Uberti does have a issue with the old navy. Not to be wavering, but, maybe I need to think a little more about a Uberti or Pietta. I do have a...

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

Thanks denster. I guess the end result of suth a problem would be decreased cylinder to chamber endgap. It concerns me that this problem exist. One would think that Uberti would correct such an issue. I have done a little machine work over the years and taperd fitt's are a very common way of...

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

Thanks denster. You say that the Uberti will have a short arbor and must use a plug. Why is this. Is it a matter of volum of target load as compard to full load. I have read the the 1861 was designed with a stronger ram (arbor) is the correct? thanks

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

I think I have narrowed my choice to a Uberti 1861 Navy rather than the 1851 Navy. From what I understand the Uberti has a little better fit and finish. But, this is novice speculation. I only know what I have read. Choosing the 1861 over the 1851 is simply a matter of looks to me. I just think...

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

Have many shooters noted a big change in Pietta quality control since the upgrade. I saw on utube where one fellow received his 2010 model revolver. It was fine, but the inside of the trigger guard was not finished. Still ruff ground. Do Pietta's come with any type of warranty. Thanks for all...

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

All points well taken. And yes, I also think $450. is a great deal of money to pay. This 1851 Navy has been in the gun shop for a long, long time. I have looked at it in the past and decided it was just too much. But, now I have relly got serious abot BP and so gave it a second look. I know the...

    Pietta 1851 Navy price

I sure could use a little help on getting into BP. I am a long time shooter but this will be a first for cap and ball. I guess this is a two part question. First. My most trusted gun shop owner has a not used Pietta 1851 Navy in 36 cal. and he wants $450. for it. Now I know that is about twice...

    Colt Officer Model

Thanks for the reply and kind welcome to THR. If jacketed ammunition will not damadge the barrel I think I will go that way. Sure will cut down of the cleaning. I have a good supply of 125g and 130g FMJ on hand. I assum that weight of bullet would be ok. I obtained this revolver from a fine old...

    Colt Officer Model

I have a Colt Officer model target revolver that was made in 1933. It's condition is exceptional and seems to be good and tight. I want to fire the revolver but am unsure of what type of cartridge to use. The barrel is marked officer model 38. I am told that all officer model revovers were 38...
