Do you remember your first shot?

One day, when I was about 10, my dad said let's go for a ride. We drove downtown to the Ace hardware, if memory serves, and he came out with a box. He didn't tell me what it was; we just drove out to a patch of land we had outside the city. There he took a brand new Winchester Model 150 lever...

    Any Other Walther PPK Lovers?

No worries. At my age, pretty much everything I shoot is shakin' .

    Ruger MK II

My Mk II stainless, 5 1/2 bull barrel, was the first semi-auto pistol I ever owed. Prior to that I'd only owned a super single six convertible. I thought the disassembly a little strange at the time, but having no basis for comparison, I said okay and pressed on. The pistol itself was/is a...

    picking up brass

Friend of mine borrowed a metal detector and swept his shooting area on his home range. He literally came up with cases that were buried under the surface. We're still mystified as to how they were actually pushed underground, but it clearly demonstrated the efficacy of using a metal detector.

    Any Other Walther PPK Lovers?

I have a blued Manurhin PPK/s I bought off Shotgun News, back in the late eighties, if memory serves. When I first got it, I had some problems with it, but I did a detailed disassembly and found the firing pin was greased up and sticky. After I cleaned it, it never failed to fire again. I...

    Umarex Glock 17 BB

Nice. Picked up the Glock 19 myself a while back. Doesn't have the blowback, but it's a lot of fun anyway. Congrats, and Happy Birthday.

    Target stand

Please do post a photo. I'm intrigued, but am one of those people who can't visualize in his head worth a darn.

Snub Nose - DAO or DA/SA

On my every day revolvers, I want an exposed hammer and SA/DA. But my snubnose is a bit of a special purpose weapon, which I invariably carry concealed. As such, I'm extremely happy with my Ruger LCR. The DA pull is fantastic, and the internal hammer means one less thing that could, however...

    New to me H&R 929

Neat. The revolver looks to be in good shape, and the holster is very cool. I love those old basket weave holsters. I have a few H&Rs, though no 929s. They may not be Colts or S&Ws, but they're decently built and fun to shoot. Congrats on the cool inheritance.

Wanting iver johnson's arms and cycle works gun info

I'm not an authority on these things, but based on the book "Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Firearms 1871-1993" by William Goforth, your revolver appears to be a "Large Frame, Second Model, Hammer" revolver. The "Q" prefix would indicate that it was produced in 1906. In 1906, 100,000 of these...

    Strange H&R first model variation 1 1/2?

I don't have anything material to add, but I read your post with great interest. I have a few H&Rs, and the Goforth book, but I don't know that with the passing of Bill Goforth and Jim Hauff, that there are any authorities on H&R left. FWIW, I think clone is right about it being transitional...

    Harrington & Richardson model 649

Yep. I've got one. I'm the original owner. It was a gift from my stepfather when I graduated college a long time ago. I've got both the .22lr & magnum cylinders with it. Even if I didn't like it, it would always be special to me because of who gifted it, but as it happens, I like it a lot...

    Ruger frustration, Security six

I've seen that there is a shade of Duracoat that is a gunmetal blue, that looks for all the world as if it's actual bluing. Would it be possible to polish or bead blast this down to reduce the pitting, then Duracoat it? Not certain, just wondering out loud, so to speak.

Ruger Security-Six 6-inch: In Love Again

As the owner of hands that fall on the medium to small continuum, I replaced the target grips that came with mine. I tried a couple different brands, finally settling on the Hogue rubber monogrips. They worked fine until I did some .357 magnum shooting (as opposed to my usual .38 special)...

Ruger Security-Six 6-inch: In Love Again

I only have the one in four-inch, and it's one of my favorites, if not my most favorite handgun. Would love to find one like yours. What kind of grips are on that, do you know? I rather like them.

Time to stock up on ammo?

I was at Academy today to pick up a few primers, and some boxes for my reloaded rounds. When I go there, if they have any .22 Minimags, I usually pick up one or two boxes of those, since they're not really back in full force. I did get the only remaining box of Minimags, but there was a lot of...

    Taurus 380

I have one in my pocket as I write this. From what I understand, they had some problems when they first came out, but mine has been fine from the very first shot. I painted the front sight red so I could see it better, and now can knock over cans from about 7 yards with no problem. The recoil...
