Not surprised to hear it.
Yeah, if you see the fast, friendly service they give on just $20 transfers, you wonder what other stores excuses are for their "customer service".
It's like when you go to a casino and you meet up with your friends later and they ask how you did and you say "broke even" which means "nobody saw me lose all my money". But I do believe most guns are more accurate than they'll get credit for in the hands of many shooters.
One thing that...
People placing ads in SGN have to do so some time in advance so the caveat makes more sense, since you place your order at some random time in the future. In the case of your in-store purchase, I wouldn't accept that. It's pretty much the same as if he called you up today and told you bring some...
Given the full-on Bowen treatment, I would go for it myself. Assuming you're not going to sell it either way, I wouldn't care about resale value. If you want to "fall in love with the gun", the work done as much as the caliber would do it for me.
As others have stated, check with Bowen on...
Just think of it this way, in the gun world, no matter what you shoot, it's only a matter of time before someone will be along to tell you what you're shooting is junk and whatever they're shooting is the only thing that should even be legal. ;)
I have one from when they brought these back (71B prefix serial numbers) and it is great. I like a plain 1911 and all I've done to it is change the wood out for ivory. The fit on mine is fantastic. It's so smooth and right that it really makes you believe the Colt hype.
A GI style...
As you suggest, the rifle sights should make any inconsistencies in sight alignment more obvious, but with the peep/GR sights, if you're focusing on the sight alignment there's a good chance you might not be letting the rear sight do its thing.
Like any other defensive situation, it's one more thing that may or may not work. Some folks won't be deterred by the fact that you have a gun and some might not be deterred if you shoot them too. I know some folks want to be quiet for some element of surprise, but then a lot of folks keep their...
Also, if you're not sure of bolt/semi, AR/M1A yet, you don't want to spend too much money just to figure out which one you don't like. :) Get involved with Appleseed and other events and try other folks' stuff first if you can.
Leaving it cocked like that wouldn't have worn it out by itself or everyone would be buying a new spring every week. As ZeSpectre suggested, you could take the bolt down and have a look. It's probably nothing, but if you still feel it's not right, you might try the forum over at Swiss Rifles.
Also, the emails should have opt-out links, though it seems like every part of the NRA that sends out emails has a different list, so you may have to click a few to make them all stop.
