I just bought a new Taurus. I have owned S&Ws and other older Taurus. The new Taurus is better than the older ones but not quite up to S&Ws I have owned. Functionally it is almost as smooth and it is just as accurate. Photo shows new condition and hammer spur removed.
I have not shot a Charter 9mm, however I did have a Charter and an SW j frame 5 shot 38 spl and now have a Taurus 9mm. In those guns a 38spl produces about 200 foot pounds of energy the 9mm Luger about 300 ft lbs. That makes a pretty snappy increase in recoil. The moon clips that came with my...
I don’t think the 905s are offered with a spur less hammer and in your picture the edge of the hammer looks like it has been cut or ground off. I am thinking about doing that to my 905 hammer. You could do that to your other gun. Have you had any failures to fire in your 905?
I just posted this accuracy comparison in another thread. Shot a little faster than once a second.
Trigger is a little heavy but fairly smooth. Finish is a little rough compared to a SW. The moon clips are soft, so they are easy to use. I think they would not work to carry in your pocket. Maybe...
I went with the 905. Here is a comparison with my G26. The 905 has too much recoil to be fun for me. I agree with the Armored Farmer that a Blackhawk convertible would be fun. I got the 905 to shoot 9mm that I reloaded to weak to cycle my Autos.
I am thinking about cutting the hammer spur off to...
Here are the two loads I I just tried. I think these guns like 5.9 W231 over 5.8 Bullseye. 12 shot groups at 10 yards, fired two handed.
Pietta 1873
Rock Island 1911
Glock 30 Gen 5
Of all the powders I have mentioned the only objective thing I can say is that, my Hornady powder measure doesn’t feed Unique as consistently as the other powders. I am unable to things like xxx powder is better for cast bullets, yyy is better for heavier bullets, zzz is better for plated. They...
I have Unique and Bullseye also, I have 5 powders that can use all the descriptor words. I have used all and at one time or the other gotten excellent results, but no objective data that tells me why one is better. I am sure there are dozens that I have not tried that will also give good results.
I reload 38/357, 9mm, 45 Colt and 45 ACP. I was starting to work up a load for 185 JHP in 45 ACP and I began comparing W231/HP38, AutoComp and Titegroup in the Hogdon reloading manual. The same words and cartridges were used in the the description of each powder, they just mixed up the order a...
All the 45 loads were Missouri Bullet Company 155g LSWC. 6.3 HP38 for the ACP and 7.2 HP38 for the 45 Colt. I am happy with the way they shoot. Those are 12 round groups if I throw away the worst flyer the worst group is 3.5” and the best was the 38 at 1.75” The 9mm was Speer 115 CPRN factory...
I shot my convertibles today. Since convertibles were discussed I thought some might like to see the relative accuracy. Generally speaking there is not much difference. I shot two other guns as controls. These groups were fired at 10 yards two handed. The guns in the photo starting from the top...
I have medium to large hands. I have had Ruger 44 magnums with all three. I liked them all. I would not not reject or choose any based on functionality.
I don’t see a compelling reason in your situation to choose one caliber over the other. I agree with the posts that a two cylinder convertible is a benefit. I also like the cowboy look more than I like the utility of a Blackhawk. Wait for a good deal, if you find you don’t like it you can sell...
Check out duelist1954 on utube. He has made a many videos on these Italian guns. There is one on cleaning up the inside of a Pietta 1851 that would show you how to do it yourself. I did mine with the stones that come with a three piece knife sharpening kit, then touch up with cold blue. It’s...
CraigC’s sample size is much larger than mine. I bought mine new off Gunbroker. If I had seen it in person I still would have bought it. There was nothing a little fine tuning could not fix. I am not bashing Uberti or Pietta. I think a comparable Ruger would have been $200 more. I like my gun...
