I've come into some good fortune and have decided to celebrate by buying a S&W 629 (something I've wanted for a long time). The problem is I'm on the fence about a few models. What I'm looking at is the 629 Classic (5"), the 629 4" or a used 629 V-Comp.
From 629 owners - which would you say...
I sent my Ruger .44 carbine off to get bedded. When I got it back home and tried to shoot it I noticed the bolt won't come all the way forward. It will go most of the way, and the bolt face will rotate, but it won't close. When the trigger is pulled it will go "click" but the firing pin won't...
A work buddy has offered to sell me his (Springfield) Garand. It's a mixmaster whose parts are from 1942 - 1945. The stock was damaged and repaired back in the war (only see the damaged part via a hairline seam you really have to look for). Not sure of muzzle or throat erosion but it seems to...
Years ago I bought a Rock River 16" Varminter. I had little experience with ARs and I thought it would be a good "do everything rifle". I had it topped with a 1-4 power Leupold and called it a day. I now know that a lighter, longer barrel would fit that role better but I didn't know then what...
I just broke my cheap-o spring loaded skeet thrower (again) and want a new one. Does anyone have recommendations for a good spring loaded thrower OR a relatively inexpensive ($200ish) electric one? The options online are numerous and confusing.
I'm thinking of converting my Sigpro to DAO. Does anyone know . . .
1) Is this easy enough to do at home?
2) Does it change the DAO pull compared to SA/DA (I'd like a shorter reset)?
I recently ordered a set of 30mm SWFA scope mounts. This was to mount a Steiner 30mm scope to a Ruger .44 carbine (has weaver rails, not picatinny). I found several flaws with the mounts used in this manner. The threads on the weaver screws do not extend far enough. This creates a situation...
I recently got a rarely used Ruger .44 Carbine. This is the old tube fed model, not the magazine fed one.
I took it apart to clean and oil as it had been sitting a long time. Everything went back together right until the end. When I rotate the action into the stock it goes most of the way...
My uncle has a single shot .308 that he says is a Hart rifle (it has no identification on it). It has a turn bolt that comes out the back, a wide flat bottomed bench style stock and the thickest fluted barrel I've ever seen. Has anyone heard/seen/knows about such a rifle? Hart's website has...
I have a friend who is thinking of getting in to hunting but doesn't know what to get. She is looking for a rifle for Whitetail in a common caliber (30-06 preferred) that is not too heavy and has nice leaf style iron sights (bar and post type - no peeps) with the ability to possibly put a scope...
I've had a saddle mount picatinny rail on my 870 Super Magnum for years. I want to remove it so I can use the bead sights again but I can't find the original two screws that go into the receiver. Does anyone know what they are called and where I can get replacement?
I think it is parts 66 and...
My brother and I are thinking about getting our father an M-1 from CMP. Our father is not a collector and just wants an M-1 - he's not picky about how nice it looks or if serial numbers match. I'd like it to be somewhat accurate (i.e. not a dog) and reliable. What has everyone's experience...
With all the rifles that have short stroke pistons and valves that can be adjusted for weak or dirty ammo - why has the concept of a piston with valve not caught on with shotguns? It seems like a simple and proven way to adjust for different ammo loads.
I recently took the front site off my Remington 700 (I use a scope anyways). The last session at the range, I was not nearly as accurate as I normally am. I'm going to go back with a different box of ammo but does anyone know if removing the front site could have been the culprit?
