    6.5 Carcano sense check

Hi, I'm just about to load up some 6.5 Carcano rounds, using .268 139gr. FMJ bullets. In terms of powder I have a choice between IMR4350 or AA2015 but I'm having a hard time finding any load data. Could anyone give me some pointers on what charge to go with? Rifle is an M38 made in 1940...

    Would you fire dropped ammo?

Hey Guys, It has been my practice to refrain from firing ammo from any of my guns if it has been dropped on the ground during loading or something. I don't want sand and grit to get into the barrel possibly scratching it up when the dirty round is fired. However watching shooting videos on...

    Can rust spread by contact?

Thanks for all the replies, guys, truth be told I'm extremely paranoid when it comes to rust and I can obsess on even the smallest things, such as this when maintaining my weapons. All the answers are highly appreciated!

    Can rust spread by contact?

Hi Guys, I have a bit of a silly question really, but it is something that has been bugging me for years. Lets assume a situation where I'm scrubbing a gun barrel with some rust in it. After I'm done I use the same cleaning rod to clean another barrel, which can deposit some rust particles...

Winchester Super X in M95 Mauser

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a little safety advise. Long story short, I have a 7x57mm Model 1895 Chilean short rifle that I usually shoot with mild handloads in the 2000 ft/lbs range. I ran out of empty cases so I bought a box of Winchester Super X powerpoints. Reading the ballistics...

    Warning about the SureFire earpro

Thank you :)! It does feel a little bit better today but it definitely is still there. If it doesn't subside more I hope I'll just get used to it with time. Had a little tinnitus already to begin with anyway, so it's not new, only got stronger.

    Warning about the SureFire earpro

No, not really. I mean thanks for your replies so far, but, do you keep your hearing protection on all the way until you're in your car and out of the shooting range? Because in this instance, sounds were amplified so much that it was painful for me to be in the parking area even. I completely...

    Warning about the SureFire earpro

I never said I did everything perfectly, however I fail to see how my removing the earplugs ahead of time changes the fact that the foam insert became lodged in my ear canal and I could only remove it with tweezers once I got home. The piece that remained in my ear focused sounds into my ear so...

    Warning about the SureFire earpro

Just to clarify the situation regarding your remarks. I was in the process of leaving as I finished my shooting for the day. The line was cold so I wanted to remove the earplugs. That was the point when the foam insert detached from the stem and became lodged in my ear canal. I left as quickly...

    Warning about the SureFire earpro

Hi All, I apologize in advance for going into a bit of a rant, but I must vent my anger over what happened to me today at the shooting range. I started looking some time ago for an alternative to simple earplugs. I mostly shoot rifles and normal earmuffs are too bulky so I have been using...

    Question on VCI capsules

Thanks for all the answers! One further question came to my mind, I'm using a heavy grease to protect my guns, is it possible that the VCI vapor would get into some chemical reaction with that grease? Or should they be OK to use together? Thanks!

    Question on VCI capsules

Hi Guys, I have a small question regarding the effectiveness of VCI capsules. The story is that I've ordered a Remington Moistureguard 12 gauge VCI capsule to hang it in my gunsafe which is very small. The safe is not airtight by a far margin, it's got 2 holes on the back, 2 on the top and...

    Small reloading hiccup question

Yes, I learned that with this little incident. It's just luck that I don't have to pull the rounds I made already since it's just a minor mistake. But I'll be sure to note down everything when the next round of loading comes - this is a good excuse to treat myself to a reloader's logbook :).

    Small reloading hiccup question

Thanks for your help! Well, not much magic in it, I guess I'm just a bit too careful, I individually weigh every powder charge with an analog scale, and then I also weigh the completed rounds of ammo to check how consistent they are. It's a slow process, but I don't really load all that much...

    Small reloading hiccup question

Thanks guys, I was really wondering if a 1gr undercharge could cause a dangerous pressure spike, but I'm assuming it's too small of a difference to matter. Thanks again!

    Small reloading hiccup question

Hi guys, just a quick question from a relative newbie to reloading. I loaded a few rounds of 7x57 Mauser the other day that I intend to fire in an 1895 Chilean Mauser. I was using Norma 204 powder and 160gr. Sierra Gameking bullets. The Norma website states a minimum powder charge for this...

    Goldenrod questions

Thanks, may I ask what is your experience with wooden stocked rifles near a goldenrod? Since my safe is fairly small, if I put the heater at the bottom-back of the safe as recommended, it would be only an inch or two away from the buttstocks of my rifles. I'm wondering if that would have a...

    Goldenrod questions

Thank you! It's a standard 8 gun safe, but whichever way I calculate it, it always comes out as 6 cubic feet :). I'm leery of using desiccant as the safe is not airtight, so I'm worried all it would do is actually draw moisture into the safe... I wish you a very happy Christmas as well!

    Goldenrod questions

Thank you for you answer! It's actually a rifle safe, quite high but narrow and not too deep. It's not airtight so I wouldn't use a desiccant pack. My only concern is if the goldenrod is going to be overkill for such a small safe?
