    Trap gun for a beginner

You would not believe the variety of guns that show up in the hands of the high school team I coach. I had to discourage on kid and his father from trying to use a Mossberg 20 ga youth model. The kid stands 5' 10" and weighs at least 180. They did have with them a full size 500 12 ga (with a...

    Trap gun for a beginner

I found a Jack West trap stock on flea bay and used it to assemble a sorta comp 1100 when I was rehabbing my back in '13. They are out there. I have a quiver of 1100 barrels from slug through i.c., mod, full. Rather have one with tubes but that might just be too modern for me. As I said...

    Trap gun for a beginner

In 2013 I was in an upper body hard brace due to infected vertebrae and discs and there is no way to describe the pain. I shot my old1100 with1 ounce loads and didn’t hurt y average one per cent.

    Trap gun for a beginner

Please consider all options. 20 gauge gives up 1/4 ounce of shot and, usually being lighter, recoils like a 12. A semi auto, like the 1100, (my two granddaughters shoot them) don’t recoil much and are reliable. A BT99 with choke tubes would be my first choice. My last one was $650 used. Shop...

    Two of S&W best ever

I think that the K frame Smiths (like the 15 and 19) are about tops with the Ns and Ls tied for second. Or first and a half. My go to guns for fun at the range are a 15, 686+ and a six inch 29-2.

What have you done in the reloading room today

Located everything to begin my 788 30-30 cast bullet saga. Dies, trimmer, moulds(3), neck reamer, neck turning tool, sizing dies (.308, .309, .310, .311), Lyman 450 sizer with heater, lead, furnace, gloves, face shield, primers, powders (variety of pistol and rifle) and my old notes from years...

Shotgun 12Ga Fed Top Gun shells

Cheddite primer, Red Dot, 12S3 or clone, 1 1/8 shot. I load them for the late season combo league skeet half. Shooting an 1100 I don’t pick them up. One and done. I think, check yourself, the powder charge is 17.5

    Let’s talk vintage reloading presses

I’m still using my Lyman All American turret press from about 1958

Well, that was a weird turn

Biggest problem with the Judge is the horribly oversize chamber throats. I measured every one that came through the shop and they were all in the .460" range. All leaded with 45 Colt cowboy loads. Even plated bullets leaded. I talked with the service dept several times but got no agreement...

Altor ! Cheapest 9mm Productions gun

Not for this old boy! I’d spend thirty bucks more and get a Heritage. At least you’d have six rounds of 22WMR rather than one and done.

    Buckshot/Slug Choke

Most of the guns I have tried in 60+ years of slug shooting liked mod or imp cyl. Cylinder bore exerts little to no influence on the undersized Fosters. The Federal TruBall shot very well in everything from cyl to mod. BTW, rifled choke tubes do nothing.

    First high school team practice

24 shooters last night. Half dozen in the forties. A couple of guns that need to be retired. Bolt action Stevens with an adjustable choke, pitted chamber, and weak extractor. Had to use a rod half the time. Mossberg made Wards pump, pinned, glued and wired stock, tire sidewall for a...

Assault Weapon Identification Guide As listed or described in Illinois Compiled Statutes 720 ILCS 5/24-1.9

Enumerates God given rights. All ten. None of which are doing very well while under attack by progressives. If we allow another bulldozed “selection” by the progressives, there will be none.

Prepping for next run of blanks

Been making them for years. 32 dies to size and decap, prime with Lee EZ prime, 2 grains of fffg, card wad cut with Harbor Freight hollow punch, drop of Elmers glue.

    .38 Diamond Back $1400???

All the snakes are stupid overpriced. Ill take my 686 6" over any of the Pythons I've had and my 29 or S47N over any Anaconda. Even the "expert" Ayoob agreed that they were a little temperamental. That said, if I could find a 4" Python barrel I'd have it grafted to my 2 3/4" Security Six...
