    Il. CC

This is my guess, as well. I keep fairly up-to-date on all legislative matters regarding carry in IL, as well as all RKBA cases in court. I've heard nothing of the sort.

    Chicago Gun Laws!!

In addition to the "unsafe" list (which is really a modern version of the "saturday night special" rasicst policies), you need to be very mindful of the Cook County assault weapons ban, as mentioned above. The AWB lists a number of traits that your firearm may not have. The most notable ones...

Help bring Right To Carry to Illinois

Or for the really lazy, just use this form (it even has a sample letter you can use) http://protectillinois.org/legislators

What's your current want item(s) but cannot have?

M&P 15-22 ... cannot legally own it because it's an evil, scary, "assault" weapon.

    Hit by a ricochet

You people talk about ricochets like they occasionally happen. This is exactly why I want to move somewhere where I can either: 1) shoot at a club, with an outdoor range. 2) get my own land to shoot on. I live in a city, and only 2 ranges, both indoor, are within an hour of me, and both are...

    United States Concealed Carry Ass'n

I must respectfully disagree. Strongly! They may be a great educational resource site, or have a great publication, or whatever else they do... But they are not fighting for anyone's rights as far as I know. We in IL, the only state in the country where all forms of carry are illegal...

    Automatic weapons in USA

I live in Chicago, with among the most restrictive gun laws in the country: * No carrying firearms, open or concealed; it's completely outlawed. * Handguns have been banned up until this last summer, but even now the restrictions are so severe and so problematic that in a city of 100,000 FOID...

URGENT: For the Illinois Gun Owners

I'm completely on board, and doing the same. :) Cheers bud. Everyone: Keep spreading the word, keep calling your reps, and get people talking about Right To Carry. Our time is now.

Advise on upcoming first handgun purchase

You can't go wrong with any of those. It's all preference. To test the trigger, take some snap caps to the shop. Or just ask if you can dry fire it. But don't over-think it. Just go with your gut. Chances are this will be the first of many purchases anyway.

22 LR pistol you don't like?

If you like 1911s, rather than the Chiappa (which it seems most people believe is junk), check out the GSG/ATI 1911 .22. There are a few threads about it here giving the details, but all around it's a great and fun shooter. It's in my range bag every trip. I had trouble with a lot of...

The 2nd Amendment: An individual right

Another, simpler argument is that * With D.C. v Heller, the Supreme Court of the U.S. ended all ambiguity by definitively ruling that the Second Amendment protects an individual right. * With McDonald v Chicago, they reaffirmed this, and extended it to make it clear that states do not have the...

Which State has the best Laws for Shooters

The best place for a shooter is definitely my home state, IL. Especially if you live in Chicago. You don't have to worry about carry laws, because all carry is outlawed across the state. You know you'll be safe from assault, since criminals obey the law - isn't that great!? So leave your gun...

    steel cased ammo....

I've been shooting a lot of Brown Bear, and will probably buy a boatload of Tula soon... it doesn't concern me at all.

    body armor

Section 720 (criminal code) has something about body armor, but iirc it is only an offense if you're using the body armor in the commission of a crime. I'm not aware of any other laws regarding body armor, but I have never looked into it.

Best "out of box" polymer 9mm.

Others have said it, but it's worth repeating: Any modern handgun from a reputable company is just fine. That includes every one you listed, plus XDs, XDms, sigs, czs, or darn near anything else you find at the store. Just get the one that "speaks to you" or feels right in your hand.

    Sons of Guns

When you come up to a door, you don't know whether you'll need to breach the bolt, the hinges, or maybe not at all. So you keep it loaded with breaching rounds. But the real issue here (as I stated earlier in this thread) is that the one breaching should never be the first in the door. SOP...

Suggest a full-frame gun for me that's not a Glock or 1911 variant?

My opinion for a couple to feel out at a store, see if they agree with your hand (and ideally rent them if you can): If you like DA/SA, then another vote for the Beretta 92FS. If you're looking for a striker-fired gun: Springfield XDm. hands down.

My son made a gun comment in school...

While statistically this may be the general trend, I just want to emphasize that this does not apply it to individuals. After years of working in the private sector, I went and got a Masters in education at a very reputable university. Most of my cohort were also older, experienced, and very...

My son made a gun comment in school...

Let me explain the other side of the coin: It all depends on the local culture. I am a former teacher, and teaching in Chicago you better believe I would contact a parent if their child was talking about shooting a gun. It's far more common HERE that a kid shooting a gun is doing so with his...
