A few questions from a soon to start reloader.

IMHO if a different 1911 helps you feel calmer for the first time rounds are loaded and fired then I say it makes sense. Getting a bit philosophical: While we need to "do things by the book" we ALSO have to think through what is right for us. What is important for me to do because of how my...

    Cleaning measure powder?

When I change powders I spray canned air into the hopper while holding it upside down. I can't recall when I last took it apart.

The math on reloading... how different it is

You win today's "Make me laugh out loud so much my wife asked me what I'm laughing at." award. Fantastic description.

The math on reloading... how different it is

I started reloading because I thought it would be fun, interesting, and give me more accurate ammo. The cost savings (if you wanna call $/round savings savings even though I'm shooting more) were a nice bennie - not a justification for loading in the first place. The myriad "Is it worth it to...

Project "Grip". Study in regards to firearm violence/suicide. Your input please.

You provide a perspective that is very helpful. I definitely concur re: a failed mental health system. I've heard stories of people being discharged following a 72 hour hold with a follow-up plan that will include recommendation for further Psychological / Psychiatric care - and then the wait...

Project "Grip". Study in regards to firearm violence/suicide. Your input please.

I'm not an attorney nor did I do REALLY deep research - but it looks like the critical step is to be adjudicated with mental health issue. This is what makes someone prohibited from a RKBA perspective if I understand correctly what I've read.. I don't know numbers, but I would presume there...

Project "Grip". Study in regards to firearm violence/suicide. Your input please.

Thanks. I'm not familiar with that type of situation (the "involuntary admission" part). I'll research it. I want to be sure I understand those types of scenarios. Very sorry to hear your friend is now a prohibited person.

Project "Grip". Study in regards to firearm violence/suicide. Your input please.

I have been volunteering with a local suicide prevention group for about 4 years. The group focuses on education for the general public: Risk Factors, Warning Signs, etc. I'm one of the trainers. The issue with firearm usage with regards to suicide is the degree of lethality. People who...

    Recent experience with Brownells?

I bought an item from Brownell's a month or two ago. Order and shipment went smooth as silk. Didn't like the item. Returned it using their standard return process. Credit applied appropriately. No issues.

    Slow burning rifle powders

I used to use H1000 in my .243 (105gr bullets and higher) with great success. Sorry - I have no experience with 7mm Rem Mag. BTW - I "used" to use it because I no longer shoot .243.....not because I found something better.

Is anyone else waiting along time for something ordered?

Up until a shipment I'm waiting on now USPS has been flawless. In almost every instance (including one or two in December) the package has arrived a day earlier than their original delivery projection when the package entered their system. I recently ordered some pistol sights. The package...

    Selling Brass what a pain.....

Wife and I have been cleaning out the house and giving away a lot of stuff. The inconsiderateness of people just ASTOUNDS me. I can't tell you how many times we've agreed to put something out for someone to pick up and they don't show. Wife follows up with them and the stories are often...

    Case Lube alternatives

When new in reloading I used RCBS case lube. Worked fine, but I hated the consistency of it. I really disliked it and the lube pad. But it worked - no stuck cases. Then went to Hornady Unique. Seemed to work well enough. Liked it better than the RCBS stuff. I now use Imperial Sizing Wax...

    Inattention at the handloading bench

I love these threads. I can point to numerous safety-oriented items I've added to my standard reloading practices as a result of reading stories like these. I once sat down to load pistol. I periodically "scan" the environment when loading......confirming that posted load data for what is...

Using JB Weld To Create "Custom" 9mm RN Seating Stem Fit

Decided to try the aluminum foil ball method first - fast and non-permanent. It seems to have worked GREAT! I haven't actually loaded any rounds with it yet. But the fit is excellent and it was done very quickly. Thanks for the ideas all. OR

Using JB Weld To Create "Custom" 9mm RN Seating Stem Fit

Thanks for the ideas. Very helpful. I read about the idea of putting a bullet on an overturned .223 case. At first I thought I'd put a bullet into a case with a belled mouth. But..... I have a concentricity gauge. Maybe measure a bunch of loaded rounds and find one with little bullet runout?

Using JB Weld To Create "Custom" 9mm RN Seating Stem Fit

The recent post on 9mm RN and bullet marks was serendipitous. (https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/loading-9mm-round-nose.878772/#post-11722122) I just discovered my 9mm RN bullet doesn't fit well with the RN stem I have. RCBS die set. Bayou Bullets 9mm 115gr RN. I chose this...

    What guns mean to you

My basic personality is such that: I'm pretty interested in how complex mechanical things work. My degree is in Mechanical Engineering, but ironically I'm not very mechanically inclined. I love physics. I love practicing something and seeing my skill improve over time as a result of my...

Initials or names on your gun

I would never do it on any of my guns. I do have a Civil War Musket that has first and last initial plus last name carved into the stock. I haven't researched it seriously - but I'd love to find a matching entry on a Civil War roster.

    New reloaders.....

Safety Driving is really dangerous if you're not paying attention. Working on your roof is really dangerous if you're not paying attention. Reloading is the same way: Understand it. Pay attention. Keep notes as someone stated. Recognize the process involves a human (which means it's...
