I also have an 1858 Brasser I cut down, I do have to admit that I got a little too thin right below the mainspring and it ended up cracking the frame there, been thinking on how to fix it, or looking for a new frame to rework it.
Here is a pic of them side by side.
Well, I guess I am on the 22/22wmr gravy train. I have the pietta 1873 with both cylinders (10 shot), a heritage with both cylinders (6 shot) and a ruger single six with both cylinders (6 shot) . Now I have the birdshead sidekick (9shot) SA/DA. didn't nead it, but wanted it - reminds me of my...
That was a response to jack rabbit asking: "I am curious as to how widespread the cap shortage is, I haven't been anywhere lately to see if there's any in the stores."
Curiosity question - I have not been using Acetone mixed with Duco, and all seems to work well, is there a reason to thin the duco I have not run accross yet?
Found it! Thanks Black Jack.
With the weather (pretty much rain all the time lately, and when it is not raining the yard is wet), and not being able to find caps locally, I have finally broken out my sharpshooter .22 cap maker. The process is tedious at best, but, it does get the job done...
Last I heard, and this is from the internet, can confirmed by one local ship - so take it for what it is worth.
CCI has said that they make their cap batches in spring/summer in prep for getting them in the stores for the fall hunting season. Other than that they are making centerfire primers...
I just bought a pietta remington pocket .31 and a pietta steel .36 for $150 each at a local shop. Also picked up a 1860 army in .44 for $200. so, I agree, 150 to 200 tops for me for a used pietta BP .36 steel. Folks seem to be ditching these locally since they cant shoot them without caps.
I have an old arbor press, that I have rigged to be able to use the sharpshooter 22 die with, still a bit of a hassle, but it is better then hitting it with a mallet. I would need to rig it upside down to make it less of a chore and have not got around to figuring that out yet.
Seems I will...
no pics handy, but Ill get some, I have an 1863 Remington ASM clone in .31 and a Philadelphia derringer in .41, rifles in 45 and 50, and revolvers in 36 and 44

Was rereading this today, and thinking if the world ever got to the point where only BP revolvers were allowed or would be routinely carried, I would have to hunt up or build a set of shoulder holsters to go with hip holsters and go around carrying 20 lbs of BP revolvers to match the capacity...
Do you happen to have a picture of how you did this mod, I searched your posts, but did not see one. I would like to rig up something that works on a single stage vs make them with a mallet. I have seen the old forrester that thread in and that would be neat if they still existed but I have...
I think there are a couple guys that go on woods walks with BPs on the forum, and pretty sure there is one or two who said they have carried BP cartridge guns. I have thought about carrying my Pietta 45 colt birdseye once or twice and may do so around the new property come spring but if going to...
I like the cartridge, and yes I own an ar style carbine. While the “ar” is a good defense platform, I prefer to shoot 223 in my Howa 1500 Varmint with 69 gr bthps.
To me it is a sweet cartridge in a bolt action varmint rifle.
