Stopped Cleaning your Gun! I did - You Too?

most people don't clean the brush and keep running the same gunk down the bore over and over again. I clean bore brushes after every pass with wd40 (any solvent should do) and dab with a paper towel. luck, murf

How often do you practice with your CCW gun that you carry the most?

I go shooting about once every other month. I shoot my pocket gun, a ruger lcpII, every time I go. I shoot either the g19 or the g30 every time, also. my dry fire practice is nearly non-existent. So far, I can still hit stuff with all my handguns. murf

    Backpacking with a Firearm

I hike a five mile trail twice a week. In addition to a ten pound water pack, i carry an lcpII and two extra mags in my front pockets (load is 68 grain xds (20 oz. total weight)). with all the other stuff (wallet, keys, knife, lighter) in those pockets, I wear suspenders to keep my pants up...

S&B .38 Special, tight primer pockets

had a lot of a usa cases in the 38 spl pile i just got done uniforming. Quite a few had tight pockets that grabbed the uniforming tool and torqued it sideways sticking it in the pocket. I had to treat those like I was tapping a hole: run the tool in a bit, back it out to clean the chips...

S&B .38 Special, tight primer pockets

What a coincidence! I am right in the middle of processing a bunch of 38 spl brass. I don't discriminate and run a uniformer through all pockets: That should solve the problem. And, as one poster has mentioned, it is a one-and-done proposition. I also trim all to min length (done...

    S&W Model 28-2 #22XXXX with a 6" Barrel - shaving lead

Sounds like a Lewis lead remover would be useful here. Lead and high pressure are a lethal combination for a forcing cone. luck, murf

For those that seat/crimp separately, do you then re-seat?

no, but I bet if you trim your cases all to the same length, your "problem" goes away. Cudos for using a separate crimp die, murf

    Pinned Barrels, yes or no

here is a 38-44 heavy duty cylinder with a smooth rear end: I can't imagine s&w worrying about a handloader shooting a 38-44 pressure load using balloon head cases. On the other hand, loading a 38 special balloon head case to 357 magnum pressure levels and firing in a 357 magnum chambered...

    Pinned Barrels, yes or no

I use gourmet toothpics (much stronger than regular ones) to clean out the recesses on my 22lr revolvers. The carbon build-up is hard enough to require the stronger pick. murf

OAL and crimping and other vexations

boyle's law does not apply when you are deflagrating powder. a medium crimp in the middle of the cannelure is recommended here. any problem with that, seat and crimp separately. luck, murf

Load for 45 Colt, 300 LFN from SPEER reloading manual needed

A 300 grain bullet @ 1100 fps is a RUGER ONLY load per the Speer #12 manual. Do not persue this terrible idea that this load can be fired out of any 45 colt chambered firearm. Your info is flat wrong. Thank you for coming here first, murf

    9mm brass not worth saving....?

Thx for the concise question. Here is my 1000 word dissertation on the subject: The dies used: The wimpy press used: All cases were lubed before sizing; the 380 die was set to touch the shell holder, the 9mm dies were set to cam over slightly; cases were randomly selected out of a pile of...
