Whenever I see threads like this I always remember what my dad told me when I was 15/16
He said, "son a 30.06 or 270, a 12 gauge and a 22 are all a man NEEDS. The rest are just WANTS."
I'm with the rest. 30.06, 270 or 308 for a one rifle gun cabinet.
Im not sure how old you have to be. I was surprised a couple years ago when my son (19@ the time) came home and told me "I got my pistol permit today" I said i thought you had to be 21 he said nope sheriff said if i passed the background check he'd give me one. Hes been carrying for 2 years now.
Just looked at a box tonight at academy. Showed my teenagers they loved them. Lol the ones I was looking at were 308. 168 grain. It said amax (if I remember correctly) for the bullet. I wonder how it would work on zombie Bambi? Or just a target bullet?
It being a pawn shop, if I really wanted it I'd offer $450 and go from there. More than likely they have no where near $600 tied up in a $400 rifle even with a monarch on it. Around here I've seen the vanguards on clearance for $299 new in the box. Dealer clearing them out for the new model. I...
As far as the cost of mags go, I was in my lgs the other day and the prices on tikka mags are within a few dollars of mags for other bolt action hunting rifles. Browning, Thompson, Remington etc. The cheapest I saw was the Remington and it was still $40.
I've been hunting with my tikka for 6...
I'm not sure which stock it is but it's listed on their new products page. I think it was on 24hour campfire where I was reading it and there was some links in the post to get some dealers with discounted prices. I wish tikka would bring in the laminates again. I've got one in 7mag that I...
I was wrong about the 870 youth I got that for my youngest daughter. For my youngest son I got him a charles daly youth pump. So many kids and guns through the years it's getting hard to keep up with them. Lol. It was a little smaller than the 870 youth but used the same chokes as the 870. It...
I like my diavari. I have the 3-12x56 with 4a reticle. I like simple reticles for hunting. To me all those little lines is just to much clutter. The glass is awesome. I know most people don't like that big of a scope but I like it a lot! But the last two scopes I've gotten have been swarovski's...
My farthest shot was lasered at 389 yards frDeer fell on spot. Rifle is a laminate/stainless Tikka 7 rem mag. Scope Zeiss diavari 3-12x56. Hornady 139 grain BTSP. I love this rifle on power lines and clear cuts. I have complete confidence in this rifle.
All my rifles are scoped.
I used the high warne for my dads rifle. The scope was a bushnell elite 3200 3-10x50. I had enough clearance between barrel and scope but not enough clearance to use butler creek scope caps. I really liked the warne rings. It was the first time I've used them and will be using them again. They...
It didn't work for my youngest son. The 20ga with light dove loads kicked like two mules!! The 243 barrel was only so-so in accuracy getting 3-3&1/2 groups. The 22 barrel was awesome. It shot amazingly well. I did luck out and got $200 for it(what I paid for it) when I traded for him a youth...
I have 2 ventures and had 2 vanguards. I also have a ruger but not he newer hawkeye but it is on my short list of next rifle to buy. My take is you wouldn't go wrong with any of the 3.
I haven't got to play with my 308 venture yet but if it's like the 270 I'll be very happy. The venture has...
I agree totally on the glass! It took me a while to realize that all the extra I was spending on gas, ammo, time and range fees could be fixed with quality glass. It amazed me when I finally broke down and started buying good scopes how much my shooting improved.
I'll take a $100 rifle(if any...
From those you listed my order of preference would be
1. TC Venture
2. Other Marlin XL7
3. Weatherby Vanguard
4. Savage/Stevens
5. Savage Axis
I have two ventures really like them both. My sons girlfriend has the marlin xs7y in 308 it's a tack driver for a $320 rifle. I've had a couple...
