Gunsmiths around central PA who know AK type rifles

I have a PSL that was put together by CIA and although it functions well, it has some issues. The barrel alignment has been off ever since it left CIA's factory. When I got the rifle, the windage was so far off that it could not be zeroed. I had a local gun smith at the time look at it notice...

How can Taurus put out something so wrong?

It's definitely not a 22 mag cylinder. I can look into it and see a profile for the 17hmr. Plus the holes on the other side are 17 Cal sized. It just looks like the chambers are a little too deeply cut into the cylinder, so the neck of the cartridge is not supported. What a mess. The gun...

How can Taurus put out something so wrong?

We all know that Taurus is not exactly the highest quality brand, but their wheel guns are of a solid design. Unfortunately, it seems that too often their execution i just so flawed. I bought a Tracker a few months ago in .17HMR. I thought that would be a cool little plinker. I finally got to...

    Magazine ban in Illinois

Just listened to senator Dan Kotowski this morning on 560AM and he was talking about the magazine ban. Other than that, he was questioned about his comparison of guns to teddy bears in which he replied, and I’m paraphrasing here - 'teddy bears are regulated to not have parts fall off, catch on...

How does the Russian Shkas action work?

Thats a pretty cool looking cannon, i wonder how it loads and ejects each cartridge. Almost seems like it would have a special device just used for ejection thats not connected to the bolt.

How does the Russian Shkas action work?

I was stumbling around and somehow found an article on Wikipedia about the Shkas machine gun. I knew nothing about the gun before that point, but it seems to be an interesting design. It uses a type of action I never heard of before called a 'Gas automatic revolver' or a gas operated revolver...

    Romanian PSL 7.62x54R

The PSO-1 scope is good for what is is. Built like a tank. But I didn't really like it too much since it has a very coarse adjustments which doesn't lend itself to well for shooting tiny paper targets. It would be much better off on the battlefield with its ranging system and large adjustments.

    Romanian PSL 7.62x54R

My PSL has a barrel just over 20" and I feel that is about as short as you would every want it. As Henschman said, the 54r surplus seems to have really slow burning powder and if you look at the data on 7.62x54r.net, you can see that it is definitely optimized for a longer barrel. I think a 16"...

    Question on 7.62x54R?

I have pulled and measured some 54r surplus to see whats going on with it. You can find that info here: http://automotivethinker.com/7-62x54r-surplus-load-data/ I did this to get a feel why some surplus shoots better than others. What is the head stamp of the surplus that had the split? If you...

IL gun owner list to possibly be made public

Look who started this whole thing. It wasn't some left wing activist group or anything like that, it was the Associated Press. I guess they are in the business of making their own news now.

Guy open carries an AK, stopped breifly by cops.

I have friends im trying to win over to our side, so I ask, how is this helping our cause? I think we should save open carry for when we need it - like after a disaster, either man made or otherwise. And come on, at least carry something that the good guys use...

    Corrosive Ammo

This has been covered a lot; but ammonia does nothing for the corrosive salts. Just clean it the best you can with a good solvent, and use an oil or something like PB Blaster Corrosion Stop (what i use) after your done cleaning to 'seal' the bore from any moisture. I use Barnes CR-10 for my...

    6.5x55mm rifles vs. 7.62x54mmR rifles - compare?

I also do some handloading and thats the worst part about the 54r, those damn .311 bullets. If i ever shoot out my barrel, ill have it rebarreled with a 308 dia so i can use proper bullets. From what i can tell, 311 bullets are not really any more expensive than 308 bullets. If i look at midways...

    6.5x55mm rifles vs. 7.62x54mmR rifles - compare?

I shoot a lot of 54r, and have come to learn that its a really funky cartridge. That 57,000CIP pressure seems to be some kind of guess and i really wonder who came up with that. I don't think anyone truly knows that the max psi of the 54r actually is. Some reloading manuals have it in listed as...

    Decent inexpensive scopes

I got real lucky with a cheap no-name scope. It says 'vision plus' on it and I got it from J&G sales a while ago. its 4-16x and must have a 70mm objective lens. All of the knobs move smoothly and click crisply, it holds zero perfectly, and the picture is clear and looks as bright as the naked...

    M1 Garand, or Dragunov Clone?

ifit, I havent shot any of that Albanian ammo though my psl, but 7.62x54r.net seems to say that its pretty low quality ammo. You should try some 7n1 and see what kind of groups you get.

    M1 Garand, or Dragunov Clone?

Taken from Wikipedia: "[Novel also refers to] something that which is striking, original or unusual. The term can have pejorative sense and refer to a mere innovation." I didn't mean to say that the M1 was worthless or of poor quality. I think they are beautiful rifles and wouldn't mind owning...
