Question about American Sniper RE: guns used

It was an PSL I think? 7.62x54, closer to .308 than 7.62x39.... EDITED: Not RPK, I can never keep my ruskie gun terms straight.

    The Wonders Of Media

    1. If it's inoperable, why the trigger lock? 2. Is that magazine pinned at 10rds or whatever their arbitrary max capacity is? 3. All I have to do is ask the police before I break the law and I can get off scott-free?

    A signature discussion...

I find it helpful. Suppose I am interested in a certain gun or need advice on parts/repair. If I see that someone has one in their sig, I can send a PM to them to get info straight from the horse's mouth, rather than start a thread where anyone with or without experience with that firearm can...

    9mm AK: the akx-9k

Cool but priced to die an early death. Very cool even.

What is the best and most trouble free way to sell an "estate" of firearms?

"Best" and "Most trouble free" are sort of mutually exclusive, especially if you define "Best" as "Garnering the highest price." A local auction house is your best bet, or find an FFL who sells on GB and have them do the leg work via selling on consignment.

Aside from the AR or AK, what is your favorite home defense carbine

Well, my only carbine other than my Saiga is a 10/22. Yeah, its mag is loaded and ready for critters big and small, but so are all the others.

    NICS Rant...

:facepalm. By that logic, a denial is a trip to jail. Hope there are no felons that happen to have the same name as you!

Gunsmith helping the Kurds fight ISIS

As for the 7.62x25 blurb, read HSO's link. It explains that he modified a Kalishnikov to fire that cartridge.

Has the 12 gauge lost popularity as a HD gun over the past few years

The argument of having to aim a shotgun always kills me. Yeah, the pattern at 25 feet is about an inch or two, but are you telling me that I can't point and shoot a man sized target at that range? :scrutiny:

Has the 12 gauge lost popularity as a HD gun over the past few years

12 gauge? No. I have only 20ga now, so I use that. Looking to buy a 12 or 2 here shortly, since the tactical shotgun fad seems to be dying out. Deals are starting to show up on lightly used HD shotguns. Next, I wait for folks to realize they don't need all these ARs that they rushed to buy...

    Mini 14 accuracy

Okay, that diagram made me laugh out loud. :D Of course, replace "shooting mini 14" with "You are roadchoad" and it would still be accurate...

    Mini 14 accuracy

Probably not what you want to hear, but Minis of that era were not known for accuracy. What you found out group-wise is fairly common.

    .22lr MEGATHREAD

They haven't tripled in the same period as .22 has. I wasn't around in the 70s when the oil crisis happened, but I imagine it was a similar scenario, and wreaked havoc on transportation. The entire auto industry shifted its production after that. Point is, if this happened with another...

    .22lr MEGATHREAD

So, when water, gas, food, and medicine triple in price, or the only options are 93 octane, Perrier, pate, and name brand pharmaceuticals, you guys will pay without complaint?

    Documented 22lr Self Defense Failures

Thanks. Any more details that you can remember? Type of gun, etc? Not interrogating or wanting to argue, just curious.

Nano 9mm carbine. anybody heard of it before

Thanks! Can you post it next to another rifle for a size comparison? Maybe a 10/22 or other common gun? I am a visual person, so the lengths they give don't help me much. Can the front railed handguard come off and use standard AR handguards?

    Documented 22lr Self Defense Failures

As to the dead raccoon with a 15/22, it goes without saying that a .22 rifle will always have more power than a .22 handgun. Interesting examples. You wouldn't happen to remember the types of gun in each incident, would you? Point being, the effectiveness of .22 in a handgun is across...

    Gunbroker question

The poster above me is incorrect, the minimum bid increment once an auction is over $1000 is $25. http://www.gunbroker.com/Support/SupportFAQView.aspx?FAQID=1018

    I don't get the fascination

Tirod, many different points you are going for there, though they aren't really related in any way. Many folks like classic cars rather than modern ones, it is just taste and a sense of nostalgia. I have yet to see someone anywhere claim a gun made outside the US is a US Made weapon, though...

    I don't get the fascination

Believe me, I wish I could like them. I will likely give one a try again in the near future, but I am not sold on the platform yet.
