Sounds like good planning to me. It isn't much harder to carry a slightly longer mag, I carry a Glock 22 mag for my G23 all of the time. Just make sure you don't slap that long mag in there too hard or you could damage some of the small parts.

I would think it's outdated for simplicity's sake. First, the officer must undo a retention strap + whatever other retention devices they choose for the holster, and then have to flip off a safety. After all that, my fingers would be tired.

I'll be the devil's advocate and suggest the ... K31. Whoops, looks like I'm not in the minority. I have both (cept my Mauser is a 48). and I think the K31 is MUCH cooler. The Mauser is just a regular old bolt rifle, the K31 is something special.

I'd suggest the SLP just on the fact that you prefer the trigger guard safety. I prefer tang safeties, so I'd go with the Mossberg. It isn't like a good shotgun is all that difficult to find, I'm sure either would serve you well.

Bulgarian Waffles seem to be the best, though I don't have any. You can't really go wrong with the Com-Bloc steel mags, though they can get heavy. It's kinda hard to make a bad AK magazine.

For a good AK like a Bulgarian? I don't think $650 is too high, a good AK costs about as much as an entry-mid level AR. I think that is a great way to celebrate, and I don't regret buying my AK (Yugo Underfold) a year ago either. With elections looming, the prices on these rifles may be anywhere.
