    Quick Question On Bear Gun

Not likely that a bear will present a problem. But if it will make you feel better, carry your 357 with some stout 180 grainers. As said before, the 223 produces much higher energy and would provide better protection than any of the handgun cartridges you mention.

Who makes the best Inexpensive Rifle Scope??

First, I am a Leupold fan. All but a couple of my rifles wear Leupolds. I have an old Redfield widefield illuminator on a 700 ADL, Excellent scope, but no longer available. I have one of the Redfields that were produced when Weaver/Blount was the holding company, but the optices are not...

New Member? Introduce yourself here (just intros, questions get answered elsewhere)

Hello Fellow Shooters I'm new to the forum but not to the shooting sports. I have hunted for 35 years and taken many species of game in more than a few countries. I still love hunting local whitetails the most with bow, shotgun, rifle and handgun. I love to work on rifles and loads to see...

    .270 or .308

You just can't go wrong with either. I own and have hunted extensively with both. Either will do the job on the game you mentioned. The animal will not know the difference when proper bullets are delivered to the proper spot. If we were having this conversation 20 years ago, I would favor...

    9 mm carry auto

Coot, I have a P11 and like it. it is certainly not a target piece, but for SD scenarios at ten feet and the ease of concealment considered along with price, it is a real deal. I carry mine in a cargo pocket of pants or shorts and also have the belt clip which I prefer to the added width...

    my toy!!!!!!

Ditto to what Acera said. Maybe a new, blued Shilen will need to be installed, maybe just a re-blue of the existing barrell. Most scope companies will address any issues with a scope for you. I've sent several back that were repaired for the price of shipping. If the tube is bent, the scope...

Midway is a fine resource for me as is Brownells, Cabelas, Natchez, Wideners, Midsoth and Graf... I shop between them and find Midway to be pretty close on average.

What is a better hunting handgun?

No doubt the 45LC can be loaded to match the 44Rem Mag. As said above, the 45LC is a very formidable round when hanloaded beyond levels necessitated by ancient firearms. In modern revolvers, this round can match or better the 44 mag. If you enjoy handloading, the 45 is a great hunting choice.

    OCing a Knife?

I conceal carry a pistol whenever possible (law permitting). Open carry may have some advantage in certain situations, but my personal opinion is that concealed is better since drawing attention to yourself is not desireable, knife or gun. I always carry a fast-deploying folder that has a...

Need .308 recommendations for hunting rifle

Just my opinion, but Remington 700s and Savage arms are hard to beat for out-of-the-box accuracy, price considered. Tikka is ok, but save a few more bucks and get a Sako (no plastic magazine, trigger guard etc.) if that is what you want.

    Buckshot question

buckshot poses no problem for tight fixed chokes. As said above, IC to modified chokes tend to pattern better, generally speaking.

    Which setup would you choose?

I like my lock-n-load press and use it the most since most of my dies are set up for quick change. HAve not used my RL550B much yet.

Another vote for Springfield. I like my Kimber and Colt as well. I have no experience with RIA, but have heard good things.
