    Scope upgrade

I have a Ruger Hawkeye in a 280 Rem with a Leupold VX-I on it. My price point is sub-$300. The Redfield Revelation and Revenge have caught my eye a bit, but I'm no where near set on one of those. I have two first generation Nikon Pro-Staff's and a Burris Fullfield II on other rifles and they...

    One eye or two?

Do you close one eye when you look through the scope or do you keep both eyes open? My natural instinct is to close my one eye, but then I hear others shoot with both eyes open.

    Sight in height

I've been debating how high to sight in my deer rifles for awhile now. The classic standard seems to be 3" at 100 yards, but the bullet is still rising at that point. I've been contemplating moving out to 150 yards and do a 3" high sight in. That should put me in about a 7-9 inch vertical...

    Pistol caliber rifle

I like my deer hunting, but I live in what's traditionally known as a shotgun slug only area. We can use pistols from a 9mm up. I would like to see the laws open up more firearms, particularly pistol caliber rifles, and was just wondering how the 357 or 44 sent down a rifle barrel compare to...

    Getting started

I'm looking to get into reloading. I don't shoot enough to justify the investment, but I'm wanting to do so anyway. My reloading priority would be these calibers, in order: 280 Rem, 30-06, 270 Win, and 9mm. The kits I'm looking to get started are both Lee kits. My first look goes towards...

Ruger returns with the 280 Remington

It's nice to see Ruger is making a Hawkeye chambered in a .280 Rem for 2012. I picked up an all-weather in a 280 Rem last month and it's a very accurate gun with ballistic numbers to match. 140gr Fusions are giving me 1MOA. I'd hate to see this chambering fall off manufacturer's radars.

    Ruger M77 Hawkeye 270

I'm having a tough time getting my Hawkeye to group. Ruger does not float their barrels from the factory and from my research, I get mixed opinions about doing so. I did send the gun into Ruger and they were able to get it to group at their 50 yard test. I have two Marlin X guns, 270 & 30-06...
