    Laser bore sight recommendations?

I don't own one, and have never used one personally, though the gun shop that mounted the scope on my M77 said they laser bore sighted it for me. I was on paper, but I had to crank the adjustments more than I was expecting when it came time to fine tune it. 2 years ago, when walking out of...

    Raising Dings/Dents in the wood

I haven't tried this yet. . . .mainly due to my fear of ruining the finish. Some of the dents look worse than others, but none seem to have damaged edges.

    Raising Dings/Dents in the wood

I would say it's a matte finish. It's a newer (less than 10 yrs old) Ruger M77 Hawkeye. I definitely don't want to make it look any worse.

    Raising Dings/Dents in the wood

My rifle fell this past weekend while I was coming in from hunting. It was leaning, unloaded, up against the door of the truck and slid to the side. It was a bonehead move on my part to be so careless with where I rested it, but I can't unride that horse. After a thorough inspection, it...

    Tough animals

I did, in fact, go back later that day and mend the fence. Luckily, I was able to cut just enough wire to get him free, so the repair job was minimal.

    Tough animals

Deer are some awfully tough animals. While driving to work this morning I came upon a scene which I had only seen on Youtube videos, or posted on forums like this one. There were two deer on the side of the road, one was standing in the field just on the other side of a four-board fence, the...

Cross dominance and both eyes open

I'm right handed, but left eye dominant. I was taught early on to shoot all frames right handed. As a teenager, I taught myself to shoot left handed. I only slightly close my off-handed eye, depending on which hand I'm shooting with. Keeping both eyes open, even slightly, has always made a...

    Hope it was worth it

I'm heading out this weekend for my first hunt of the season. Going to a spot which I haven't laid eyes on in quite a while. My father-in-law and I had hunted the area pretty hard for several years so we decided to 'let it rest' and hunted other areas last year. Here's hoping it was worth...

    Winner winner deer for dinner!

Good work on filling the freezer!!! Where in Tidewater were you? I have a friend in Chesapeake who's looking to get out, but isn't sure about the available areas (he just moved a couple weeks ago).

    deer stand advice

Have you thought about trying a HSS Lifeline? Not sure what was going on with your harness. More info would be very helpful.

    Climbing Stand Question(s)

Get yourself a set of Stabilizer Straps from Third Hand Archery. They are a simple set of nylon straps with an alligator buckle that attach to both the top and bottom sections of the stand. You keep them loose while climbing, then tighten them down once you're at your hunting height. When...

My wife shot her first deer today

the jogging around thing is something I've done for archery practice. if you have a set-up for rifle practice that will allow for this same type of activity, I'd give it a try. I'll also second the deer shaped target. One thing that's worked well for me is very briefly closing my eyes after...

My wife shot her first deer today

If she's good on paper, I'd work on controlling the 'buck fever'. Have her take several deep breaths to calm her nerves before gently squeezing the trigger. You'd be surprised how quickly she'll be able to put a good shot on a deer. Unless the deer is moving, she'll only need 5-10 seconds to...

My wife shot her first deer today

Deer are tough animals, if she's still running around, she'll likely be fine. Tell your wife to keep her chin up. Even the most experienced hunters miss, or put a bad shot on a deer, every now and then.

    First hand loaded doe kill

Congrats on the deer! I have to ask though, do you always take that much stuff into the woods with you? I usually wait until I get back to camp to dive into the cooler. :D

    Fuel-based hand warmers?

I've used the fuel type hand warmers for duck hunting, and they're super warm. My grandfather had a bunch of them and passed them down to me. I haven't used any of the newer editions, but I'm sure they probably work just as well. That being said, they do smell and I wouldn't dream of taking...
