    did longmire get it wrong

Colt's early literature recommended (and the pistol was designed) to be carried hammer down with the chamber loaded, so it's not "wrong." Lever action rifles and single action revolvers were carried the same way for 40+ years before the 1911 was even a thing. Condition 1 with the thumb...

    Burro Defense Gun

That burro heard the old family legend about what happened to the LAST relative to get in the way of a jeep... If we're REALLY down to a "what gun for donkeys" thread, a Single Action Army backed up with a .357 Registered Magnum was Patton's choice.

Should a American Citizen With No Disabilities Be Able to Board a Train, Bus or Subway With a Firearm?

A person with no legal disability SHOULD be able to carry anywhere EXCEPT courthouses, police stations, jails/prisons, and mental health facilities. Unfortunately, that isn't the reality of the world we live in.

If you could have only one pistol?

A good number of people who weigh in on threads like these answer "Glock if I have to choose, but I'm glad I don't have to." I would have a hard time choosing between my CZ PCR and my CZ Custom SP-01. The SP-01 does shoot just a bit better, but straight up, when I handle the PCR, I can't help...

Can a Convicted Felon Go to a Firing Range Strictly as a Observer? No Handling or Firing.

His parole officer can still give him a violation even if it isn't illegal per se. He needs to ask his parole officer, not the internet.

Which Guns Would You Pick If You Don't Reload?

Add me to the list of people who don't reload. My father does reload, but his reloads aren't good enough to be reliable. About all I have shot the last ten years is 9mm and .45 ACP, with a couple of boxes of .357 thrown in the mix.

    Am I being realistic?

OK, here's the thing. If you're shooting fast enough to put multiple cases in the air, a reasonable expectation is a double tap at 25 yards. The NRA High Power Rifle definition of "rapid fire" is 10 rounds in 60 seconds at 200 yards, or 70 seconds at 300. The Army/CMP definition is the...

First new gun of 2024! 😁

I didn't buy any guns in 2023. I sort of want to get into bullseye pistol competition, and my understanding is that anybody who is anybody, shoots bullseye pistol with an S&W 41. So that might be happening this year.

Who should take care of shipping this gun back? The gun shop or Ruger ?

Complete the transfer at the FFL, and take possession of the gun. If you find any problems, contact Ruger. You may have to pay to ship it to Ruger. They will pay to ship it back to you.

May someone compare a M1A/m14 with a Winchester model 100?

The Model 100 was the semi-auto counterpart to Winchester's Model 88 lever-action rifle. I'll allow that they MIGHT have borrowed a simplified version of the M14 gas system, but otherwise, the two rifles aren't much alike internally. Winchester 100 disassembly...

    getting into autos

My first question is, have you ever SEEN a black bear in the wild? I have. It was running the opposite direction as fast as it could. To actually answer the question, get yourself any reputable brand 9mm.

    Need Opinion Please

Like others said, recoil from a .40 is a bit snappy. If you have a pile of .40 S&W ammunition, go for it. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Bear defense pistols: .357 or .45acp. Pick one!

As long as you aren't purposely A.) leaving out food or garbage, and B.) no one drives one to you while you're hunting, you probably never will see one. Those two scenarios are the only two times in my life I've ever seen a black bear.

What would "SMG .30 Cal." have been in the Vietnam era?

They got "a metric crap ton" of M1 carbines from the United States.

A different way to hold an auto pistol

While the rest of you all are debating the "one correct way" to hold a Glock and pull the trigger, I will be over here with my CZ pistols, pulling the trigger with the first knuckle of my right index finger, which if you do it with a Glock, feels kind of funny because of the "trigger dingus,"...

A different way to hold an auto pistol

There is nothing inherently "wrong" with the old cup-and-saucer grip. It works fine. It's just that it fell out of use about fifty years ago. My father tried to teach it to me when I started shooting handguns twenty years ago. I say he tried, because I can't turn my left hand so it faces palm...

    A lesson in paying attention.

I have done this also, out of a Colt SAA. It took a knife to get the case out, which about two-thirds of the case was missing. My best guess is that the .429 bullet out of the approximately .452 barrel leaves enough of a gap so there isn't enough pressure to hurt the gun.

A Rifle For Large North American Animals

If we throw polar bear in the mix, I might have to go with .450 Alaskan or .458 Winchester.

    Fighting Revolver

If I knew ahead of time I might be in a gunfight, I wouldn't go there in the first place. If I "gotta go with what I got," it's an S&W 27-2. If I have time to pick, it's a CZ 75D PCR.
