    Auction SCORE!

Picked up 21 boxes of 28 ga ammo at an estate auction today for $6 a box. The granddaughters will have fun learning how to shoot pasture clays! (I do reload for 28 ga, but haven't set up my press since moving into a new house 5 years ago.)

    Blast from the past...

So, we went to an auction today because there were reloading supplies listed. I managed to buy about $400-$500 worth of premium bullets for $75. But the big news was, there were a few boxes of books there, and I pulled one book out of one and it looked familiar, so I asked if they would sell...

Jim and Tyler had a good morning

My son and grandson. Right at 6:00 AM on our river bottom, Tyler shot his from the blind, and then Jim wandered toward the river and found two toms fighting. He walked right up on them and shot one. This is Tyler's first turkey.

    Just for fun

Took this picture tonight (Thanks to H&H's friend Dirk for the beautiful round and to H&H for the fired brass!). First three are pretty easy. Four and five are a little tougher. As you can see, number four is just fired brass. Take a guess!

    A simple request...

PLEASE, don't leave your hulls laying all over my property. If you have garnered enough of my favor to be allowed to hunt my place, please don't trash it up with your empty hulls. I wouldn't throw my trash in your yard...

    Dove Opener

Dove Opener at the Ashcraft Place has become sort of a tradition. The hunt is a minor part of the day. We enjoy the food, camaraderie and the stories the best. We did miss Art Eatman this year, he decided to veg out for a bit after making a 4000 mile round trip to Speed Week. We had 17...

H&H, you might want to bring something bigger than birdshot...

...on this years dove hunt. Sandy asked this morning "What's that black thing in the driveway?". (Center of picture.) Bear poop. First ever since we've been here (1994). We're about ten miles east of Pueblo on the Arkansas river bottoms. Sometimes in a drought year, bears...

Lost one of the greats yesterday

Eddie Rhodes, top USPSA competitor, and a good friend, passed away yesterday: http://www.chieftain.com/articles/2010/03/16/news/local/doc4b9f17d1a1473625785514.txt Besides being a top competitor, Eddie was known for being a great sport and giving encouragement to all shooters, regardless of...

    *PINK* KelTec P3AT

Mr daughter turned 30 last November, and we decided, along with her husband, to get her a carry gun for her birthday. She had tried several, and settled on the P3AT with extended magazine was the one she wanted. But she wanted a pink one ("Its like underwear, dad. Nobody sees it, but it...

    Red dot on a Mini-14?

I have an older (181 series) Mini I bought used many years ago. It has a Redfield base and a Weaver K4 scope on it. I would like to try a red dot on it, because it is used mainly for up-close varmints that are usually running. I've used a couple of red dots, but I'm completely unfamiliar...

    Cool find today

I was helping mom go through some of dad's stuff today. In his top dresser drawer, way in the back, was the owners manual for the J.C. Higgins model 20 shotgun he bought in 1955. Dad told me a few years ago that he was young, and had a new family, and Winchesters and Remingtons were $75 and...

    My first successful StealthCam photo

After fooling with my StealthCam for a couple weeks (wrong memory card, bad batteries, etc.) we finally got this picture either yesterday afternoon or this morning. The date and time are wrong because I forgot to change them. This is about a half mile below the house and maybe 100 yards...

Get together at the Whittington Center, Memorial weekend.

Anybody want to do this again? http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=310248 We're planning on it, and we'll probably go even if it just ends up being a family get together.

Anybody near Syracuse KS hunting pheasants this Sunday?

Smoke Rizen and I are heading out early Sunday to hunt some walk-in property near Syracuse. Two people don't make much of a pheasant hunt. Anybody want to join us? Better yet, since we're buying KS licenses, anybody have access to private land in Western KS we could hunt? Since we'll...

    Sixth annual Colorado get together

How about Saturday, September 6th at our place? Suggest some activities, maybe? The clay shooting a couple years ago was fun, and Billll's newest boomers are always the hit of the party. Dove season will be in full swing, and we're overrun with Asian Collared this year (no limit on them, 15...

    Positive experience with LEO tonight.

I shouldn't have been surprised. After all, this is the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department, and all my interactions with them have been good. So, I got home tonight and took my cover shirt off, after all it's 90 degrees outside. Sat on the porch a bit and sighted a coyote about 200 yards...

    Remington Model 10-S Trap Grade

I just inherited this shotgun from my father, who bought it used in the 1960s. I can post pictures tonight but here's a description: 32" full choke barrel, straight stock, model number on barrel says "Model 10-S" and slide bar says "Trap Grade". According to Remington's web site these were...
