I have carried N-frames in holsters by Simply Rugged for years. They are nice fitting, ride high on the hip, handsome when carried in the open, and comfortable to carry IWB. Even with big ol' N frames.
I would like an S&W N Frame capable of handling .454 Casull. Love my X frame, but it is too big to carry all the time. Four in barrel and six shot capacity a must. An X frame in .475 (Maximum)? A Scandium X frame with maybe a seven shot .44 mag cylinder, or even eight. I don't know if that is...
I carry an N-frame almost every day. I had a 325TR and I wish I'd never sold it. These days it is a 629. Toothy creatures are a real threat were I live.
+1 on Simply Rugged leather.
I carry a 4" 629 concealed almost every day, it can be done. A 625 would be identical in size and weight. Two caveats: I am a bigger fellow than average and I live where it is cold/cool most of the year.
The .45 Colt may be the perfect handgun cartridge for almost everything.
You will definitely get lower velocities out of shorter tubes. I own a 4" 629, and IMHO any extra barrel length above 2.5 is good when dealing with the .44 mag. When considering handiness vs functionality, the shortest reasonable .44 mag barrel is 4". In comparison to a 2.5 barrel, velocities...
Thanks Guys.
Regarding work to be done:
1. I would like the action smoothed up a bit. It could feed better. If one works the action vigorously there are no feeding issues, but if you are less than forceful it will not feed perfectly. I want that fixed.
2. The trigger, while it is crisp in...
I have a CZ 550 that I would like to have some work done to, can anyone recommend a good rifle smith or smiths?
I intend to take this gun on dangerous game hunts and would like someone familiar with the requirements of a DG rifle.
Thanks
I bought a CZ 550 in .458 Lott. It was advertised for a price that I could not pass up.
It had no cross bolts on the stock. It took exactly 17 rounds before the stock broke. CZ replaced the stock for free. Now it has cross bolts. The trigger disengaged after 15 rounds. Fixed that, haven't...
Buffalo Bore anti-personel full wadcutter or their standard pressure heavy 255 grain semi-wadcutter should be effective and not treat your derringer to harshly.
If two guys are shooting 5 shots a second at me, I am probably going to die no matter what I am carrying.:uhoh:
However, for a "one gun for just about everything whilst in the woods" I will stick with my .44 and I respect your decision to carry what ever you carry.
CraigC,
You are 100% correct. Let me restate, I shoot Smiths in .44 and I won't load them much over three hundred grains. No Buffalo Bore, Garrett heavy stuff, or +P handloads in those. In a Ruger or Freedom Arms, I would, but not in my purdy lil' 629. So I guess, the .44 and .454 probably...
Im live in the great north and my "one handgun to do it all" is a 4' 629 with 240 grain JHPs or 255-265 grain Kieth bullets. Fine for most animals and fine for anti-personel use. If I am fishing in brown bear habitat, I pack the .500, but for almost every other use the .44 is my constant companion.
I have a 629 .44 mag, Ruger SRA .454, and a .500 X frame. In my opinion, far and away, the .454 is a better than the .44 as a stopper. Heavier bullets, more frontal area, a little more velocity, all good things.
Ths .44 is more controllable, and the SRA .454 is the most uncomfortable handgun I...
A gun in the bed seems like a bad idea. I keep a handgun on the night stand and a shotgun by the bed. And nothing gets by the two dog security system.
For humor and illustration, I share the following.
My great-great grandmother slept with a S&W .38 under her pillow for years. I remember...
Head shots and frontal center chest shots are a good start. From a frontal and slightly downward angle, the spine in the neck and in front of the shoulder blades is highly effective. Severe that spine and the animal can no longer move.
Also, if a broadside shot is taken on dangerous game or in...
