AMT Backup 380. Should I buy?

I had a SA .380 Backup and I still have several .380 and 9 mm DAO Backups all bought new back in the day. Proper lubrication is the answer to slide galling and all of mine have been reliable. I traded in the SA Backup on a 6" Security six but still have all the DAO backups and one of the 9 mm...

    That One Go-to .357

Let me see, would I go with the 4" GP-100, the 6" Security Six, or the 4.62" Blackhawk, all in stainless (and ignoring my other shorter .357 revolvers). I think I would have to go with the GP-100, although I would not be disappointed with choosing one of the others.

    Itty-Bitty Auto for my Birthday!

I have a Seecamp .25 that I bought new back in the 80's. I should dig it out from the recesses of the safe.

    40 s&w AMT Back up

My .380 and 9 mm DAO Backups have all worked well for me. Good lubrication is your friend, from the standpoint of stopping any galling of the slide on the frame. I am currently using M-Pro 7 LPX.

    Pocket Gun

Boy, the Detonics .45 takes me back. From the mid 70's to the mid 80's, they were based on the Eastside of Seattle. I handled and fired a number of the Combat Master pistols, which were notorious for feeding problems. But it was amongst the very first production compact 1911 pattern pistols. A...

    Pocket Gun

I had a single-action AMT Backup in .380, and I never got it to work reliably. I traded it in toward a 6 inch stainless .357 Ruger Security Six, which I still have today, some 38 years later.

    Pocket Gun

I am not Todd, but I have a number of AMT pistols, all bought new back in the 80's and 90's: AMT Lightning with 10" bull barrel, AMT DAO Backups in .380 and 9 mm. Back in the day the DAO Backups were one of the very few options if you wanted something small, dehorned, in stainless steel and in a...

    Woods/city carry for Alaska worker

I read an article about the Danish Sirius Patrol, who does remote patrolling via dogsled throughout Greenland. Specifically for the polar bear threat, they use a Generation 4 Glock 20 10 mm with a six inch barrel to back up a Sako bolt action rifle. Unfortunately, the actual ammunition used...

Which Single Stack 9mm do you EDC?

In terms of a single stack 9 mm, I carry either a Kahr CW9, or an AMT DAO Backup.

    Quality budget 9mm pistols

Put me down as another one who is impressed with the Taurus G2C. I bought two of the stainless models from Bud's a few months ago for $ 210 each minus the rebate. I have a few hundred rounds through each with no problems or malfunctions. They are an updated version of the PT111 that I bought...

Weapon light or laser for S&W 659

The idea for a rail mounted with VHB tape was a bust. There is not sufficient flat surface on the frame in front of the trigger guard to mount a rail. So this would apply to having the frame drilled and tapped for a rail mount, as well.

    Any 3rd-Gen Smith fans?

I have a 659, 669, and 3913, all bought new in the 80's and 90's. All of them have been superb in accuracy and functioning, and the 659 can do double-duty to clout something, much like my Ruger Security Sixes.

Weapon light or laser for S&W 659

I am pondering this, but I would like to leverage my current investment in the 659. I was looking at a M&P 2.0 the other day, and my preferred model would be over $ 500 out the door and none of my LGS have this model in stock, so it would be a special order. In Washington state now with the...

Weapon light or laser for S&W 659

So after additional research, I was unable to find any specific mounts for a S&W 659 and Crimson Trace no longer makes a lasergrip for the 659. I was discussing this with a colleague and he told me about a rail that he installed on the dustcover of a 1911. It was made by a company called...

Never thought I would buy one

I have been in healthcare administration since the 80's, and I am familiar with the concept of carrying in scrubs. I am also a fan of the belly band, and this is what I use: https://comforttac.com/collections/belly-band-holsters I like something in neoprene as opposed to elastic and with a...

Weapon light or laser for S&W 659

Or is there a mountable rail adapter for the S&W 659? I just saw one on Amazon for the Beretta 92, but am not seeing one for the 659.

Weapon light or laser for S&W 659

Are there any options to mount a light or laser on a S&W 659 built back in the 80's?. It has no rail for mounting. I was sure that back in the day, I saw such lights or lasers that would clamp onto the trigger guard. Yet I cannot find such an item at the major vendors. Perhaps they stopped...

Opinions on the Ruger American 9 mm pistol?

I did a search here and did not find very much on the Ruger American 9 mm pistol. If anyone has an opinion on it as a nightstand/HD/maybe carried pistol, please share your insights. I am also pondering the differences between the American and the SR9.

If you could have only one handgun, what would you choose?

Through the years, I have consistently answered this question the same way: a 4 inch stainless steel .357 revolver. I am partial to the Security-Six, myself.

Is an EDC flashlight even necessary?

I bought this on a whim a few months ago. It lives on my keychain. Amazing amount of light from a small and durable form factor. They have other models in aluminum, but I went with the polycarbonate due to scratches from keys...
