For that drop you'd have to be shooting that bullet at a muzzle velocity of close 4300fps. Either you have one badass 300BO or you were shooting nowhere near 300yds.

The guy who started this thread builds super lightweight AR15s and AR10s. I don't think you'll be able to get down to 3.25lbs like he did and stay within your budget but it will still show you a lot...
The AR is just as much a hunting rifle as any other semiauto, and more accurate than most wood and metal stocked semiauto hunting rifles. I've hunted with several different ARs in several different calibers and never once felt the uncontrollable urge to just start emptying magazines at animals.
In much of the Army an armorer is just an additional duty, trained in a short week or two course on how to do basic repairs and inspections on the weapons. It's not common to actually have an MOS armorer anymore in my experience.
The gas tubes will not overheat and bend when the rifle is used as it is designed. Firing 1000rds without lettting the rifle cool is not how it was designed to be operated, therefore a failure in those circumstances is not a failure in design of the rifle. All a melted and bent gas tube in a...
I disagree with just about everything you just wrote. I have more experience using the M4/M16 in harsh conditions than what you list as your credentials and haven't run into anything other than ballistics that makes me doubt the performance of my rifle.
That all depends on the background of the target. I can spot misses out beyond 800m with my 6.5-284 when the target background is dirt or rock. I can't do that if the background is vegetation, especially on tundra. I have a 6-24x50 PST on that rifle.
Well, missed out on this one. I called and spoke to the shop and made an offer of $1100. The gun is on consignment so the shop had to call the owner to ask about it. Owner countered at $1200, I countered at $1150 and waited for a return call. When the shop called back they told me they hadn't...
Finding the brass isn't hard, the .318 bullets will be harder. Not a lot of options in that size if it really is a .318 bore. I reload so ammunition won't be a problem for me.
The 8x57JR would be a bit of an inconvenience since I already load for 8x57 JS. If I were to buy I'd slug the bore and hope for a bit of luck that it wasn't .318 just to make my reloading stock easier. From looking at a few stores it looks like 25" 16ga would all be internet order as well.
I'm looking at a combination gun online and trying to figure out more before I decide whether or not to make an offer. It is a 16ga/8x57JR, fully engraved and appears from photos to be in good condition. Stock has some dings and the bottom corner of the buttstock and plate is chipped. The scope...
Almost every M4 I've seen in the Army has been a Colt. Almost every M16A2 has been a Colt. Almost every M16A4 has been an FN. I've seen a few M16A2s converted from old M16A1s with obscure manufacturers from the 60s. Recently we received brand new FN M4s built using old stock M16A4 receivers. FN...
A bottom feed magazine keeps the rifle in two dimensions. Length and height essential, width isn't a concern. If the magazine feeds from the side it adds the width dimension and increases the perceived bulkiness of the rifle. I prefer the more or less streamlined M4 and would really hate if it...
You'll be fine with an AR15 in 6.5 Grendel. For hog hunting you will definitely appreciate the fast follow up shots compared to a bolt action. The worst a broken bolt or extractor will do is end your hunt or range time early and it is unlikely to occur. Sure, it's more likely than with a 5.56 or...
Looks like CFE223 would do just as well in the 8x57. I've used both CFE223 and Lever in several different cases that they aren't commonly used for with impressive results. Lower pressures with higher velocities is the norm.
