    J Frame grips

The very best grips you could find would be the Crimson Trace LG-405. They have the little "Air Pocket" design that really absorbs recoil. They also are grippy enough to hold onto, but not so grippy (like the super-sticky rubber Hogue's) that your clothes stick to them when you carry IWB...

    How Critical is Draw Speed?

Draw speed is a big reason that I pocket carry a J-frame. Not only is pocket carry very concealable, but all you have to do to draw is remove your weapon from the pocket - you can even shoot through the pocket if necessary (say, if you are wearing a coat). If you notice trouble coming just...

Required to wear cap at gun range.

My buddy also had a spent case bounce off of the wall and land between his glasses and his eyelid, which caused a pretty good burn mark. This has taught me to get glasses that fit my face very well - ie: no gaps for hot brass to sneak into.

    bud's guns

Here's something that is not very kind to Bud's: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/buds-gunshop-c212331.html?sort=datea&page=1 Bud's responses to the above complaint are beyond belief (please read the entire post before you respond). Also, try a search here on THR and see what...

Your Backup - Same Caliber as Primary?

My back up is a S&W 340PD in .38/.357MAG. I chose this because it is about the best pocket gun available. My primary is either a .40 or .45ACP

    Taurus failure

I'd say that most people on this forum think that Taurus offers junk for firearms. Use the search function to see numerous threads on issues with Taurus's products and lack of customer service. I would not use a Taurus for concealed carry, nor, would I have high hopes in getting it...

    Midway USA

I stopped using Midway when they refused to re-activate my dealer's account because I did not have the word "gun" in my business name (by the way, neither do they). Brownell's has no problem giving me "dealer" pricing, so they end up with what business would have gone to Midway, which is...

Gov't wants dealers to report sales of High-Powered rifles

WASHINGTON - Federal weapons agents want gun dealers near the Mexican border to start reporting multiple sales of high-powered rifles. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is asking the White House budget office to approve an emergency request that would require dealers to...

    scope ring lapping ???

I actually found a piece of 1 inch brass rod in the scrap pile at the local metal place that I have used for doing this. Brass theoretically tends to hold the lapping compound better than hardened drill rod will. In practical application, I don't think it would make any visible difference.

Can't Taurus make up their mind? Why so many models?

Somebody needs to keep the gunsmiths busy.

    Knife instead of gun

I took a couple of self-defense classes instructed by James Williams, who knows his way around a knife quite well, and when asked, he stated that he would take a stick over a knife, because with a stick he would hurt you real, real bad, and that he would take a gun over anything, at anytime...

    Gun-shop etiquette

I always ask if they give a cash discount. This is a polite way of opening up negotiations, depending on the response of the person you ask - if they say, "Yes", then that usually means that they are willing to negotiate on the price. For me, the bottom line is that if you ask for a...

Night Sights: actually useful, or gimmicky?

Not all night sights are equal. I prefer the XS 24/7 Big Dot sights - they are incredibly easy to see and use in both daylight and lowlight conditions.

    Synthetic VS Wood?

Wood looks the best! Synthetic is more durable! (and waterproof too) So... do you want something to look pretty, or to work hard? Some factory-provided synthetic stocks are just pieces of junk! The synthetic stock that came with my .338 Win. Mag. Browning A-Bolt was of such cheap &...

    Maximum Effective Range of Shot

Mostly, shot pattern and maximum range will depend on what barrel length and choke you will be using. Also, ammo selection plays a very important role, insomuch that Federal Flite-Control wads hold incredibly tight patterns when compared to almost anything else available. If you can give...

    VERY thick fouling problem

A Green Scotch Brite pad attached to a rod, a bit of breakfree, and a power drill will clean bores really good. I also use this setup to polish the rough spots out of bores. I have found that 0000 steel wool does not clean as well as the Scotchbrite.

Is a handgun enough for home defense?

While a handgun might be adequate in most home defense incidents, I believe that a shotgun would be more of a sure thing.

Cyl or Imp/Cyl with Federal Flitecontrol wad?

I have a cylinder-bore 18" barrel and an improved cylinder-bore 18" barrel, both on 870's. (Both barrels have had their forcing cone lengthened and the bore polished to a mirror-like finish) The IC shoots tighter patterns in everything that goes through it, including the Flite Controls...
