Renaming the AR15 and other "Assault Rifles"

doubleh, I think the weapon term is another one that was carried over from the military vernacular. With all the different kinds of deadly devices in use, and with "guns" technically being a type of artillery, the generic word used was weapon. While I can see where you're coming from, I...

Renaming the AR15 and other "Assault Rifles"

When I carried a U.S. Government weapons card it said that I was allow to remove a specific "M-16A2 SERVICE RIFLE" from the 8th Communications Battalion armory. That is also what we were taught to call it in boot camp. I think it's a perfectly good term for it because it sums up exactly what...

    cz everything!

MI2600 makes a good point. CZ stuff is horrible. Don't ever buy it.

    cz everything!

Yep, Mater, that's the one. I would love to have one of those! I'd love to have his personal range too but at least the rifle is actually a possibility for me!

Mitlov, I see what you mean, although that first picture isn't exactly the best execution of the concept.

Anybody have experience on the Fabrique Nationale FNS?

I saw an ad for the FNS today and it said that it was double action. Is this a true double action that I can use to easily dryfire practice or is this the striker fired "double action" that is really more like a single action?

    There's no accounting for taste...

Baricua beat me to it. That chocolate pistol is exactly what I thought of when I saw that 1911. I think that one might look better in real life than against that lime green background. It's hard to tell. I have seen some that were pretty ugly, or at least I thought so. On the other...

    ? for CZ guys

Let me second the advice for getting a p-07. I have one and love it. The grip is definately slimmer than the M9. I also love it because it's at that sweet size that is just big enough to be a service pistol, but not too big to carry. Of course, if that doesn't mater to you, then you might...

    cz everything!

As the former owner of a CZ 97B and the current owner of a CZ P-07, I can say their pistols are great. I don't know about their other stuff but I wouldn't be too ready to move away from either mossy 500 or rem 870 for pump scatterguns. Mostly just becase of aftermarket parts availability...

Why conceal if you're going to announce it to the world?

As to the OP's question, I think some people just feel the need for a few more layers of covering over their rump. Yeah, the law may not require it and it might make people uneasy but if you get a "yes" answer, you know without a doubt that you're allowed to carry at that place. I, and...

    Old Brady Campaign slogan

You know, as "secured" as the inner parts of a Navy shipyard are, one has to wonder just how this could have happened in such a location. I mean, they have rules against having guns there! Oh.... So maybe that really doesn't work so well. It just kills me to see these people tripping over...

Does a national incident change your carry habits?

Yeah CZ, I'm pretty much the same way. I carry whenever it's legal to already so not much change there. I suspect that's the way a lot of people around here are.

    SCAR in US Navy Ad

That's funny. I work as a civilian on a US Navy base and most of the armed Squids I see have either an M-9 or a Mossberg 500 or 590. Still haven't seen them with a SCAR. I did see one of them carrying a 20" barrel M-16 with a collapsible buttstock once. That was a little different.

What kind of fiberglass resin would be good for a handgaurd

Edarnold, Thanks for the resin recommendation. Yeah, could get a handgaurd, heck I already have one of the wide green ones, but where's the fun in that This is only partly about having another compliance part and mostly about me liking to tinker with stuff. I actually have this great plan...

What kind of fiberglass resin would be good for a handgaurd

I'm looking into making a custom handgaurd for my Century Arms HK-91 clone. The M-14 had fiberglass stocks and handgaurds so I figure why not the '91? I'm just not sure what type of resin to use to hold up to the temperatures. Will the normal stuff used for auto body work be OK or would I...

Picked up something a little different today

Well, now that is a bit different. Does Smith' offer the M&P in that arrangement from the factory or is this custom work you had done?

    Five-seven, Hype or good?

Don't get me wrong, they're wicked cool and if I had gobs of money I might own one. However, as a reloader I don't care for bottlenecked pistol cartridges. With a straight walled design I can use a carbide sizing die and eliminate the need for case lube. With a bottleneck design I have to...

    Large cap truck pistol?

Hmmm I would have said that a larger version of whatever you carry now, but given your comments on not shooting autos, I'm going to assume that's a revolver. If that's the case, and since you mentioned that you don't prefer polymer, perhaps a metal framed DAO or Double Action with a...

who is importing the "new" Daewoo K5?

Fishbed, that's very true, but there's a lot of polymer there and some people (actually my wife included) just prefer a metal sidearm. For those people the list gets a lot shorter. Plus, having shot the M9 in the service, I can tell you that the Beretta is a big pistol. Really too big for a...

who is importing the "new" Daewoo K5?

I just went on gunsamerica and there are two different sellers offering the pistol but both are pretty much charging MSRP. http://www.gunsamerica.com/Search.aspx?T=lionheart%20lh9
