Humorous thread on US Army ammo contract

BINGO. Area of a circle is proportional to the SQUARE of the radius. A 0.45 inch projectile makes a hole that is 63% larger than a 0.35 inch projectile. Not sure if this an example of innumeracy, or just how willing we are to say someone is wrong without bothering to ask them to explain their...

Humorous thread on US Army ammo contract

Well, my antiquated .45 makes a hole that is 63% larger than that antediluvian 9mm. If you had seen me shoot, you would know that a larger hole is important, because it means that more of my shots that are right at the edge of the scoring ring get counted.

    German "Gun" mystery...

I have a 5-gallon bucket of similar "guns" in the garage. Someday, somewhere, there will be a buyback I can get to, and they will pay for a weekend in Vegas.

    P.38 Serial Question

Recently ran up on a Mauser P.38 with mismatched numbers, and wanted some assistance. Left side of slide shows "P.38" and "byf 43" - so far so good. But the serial number on the slide seems to be short to me. It's only two numbers, followed by a script "a". Same two numbers and script "a" on...

Gift for a recent academy graduate?

Want the perfect gift? Get a soft trauma pack to go into the chest pocket on his body armor. If you think it appropriate, letter a Bible verse on the front (Maybe Ephesians 6:10 "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.") And then tape 2 $50...

    New NRA Membership

Looks like they do have to be lifetime members, and they have to be fully paid up - so you can't start one of the installment plans and sign a petition before you have made the last payment.

    New NRA Membership

Not completely correct. Voting members of the NRA may submit a petition to the Secretary of the NRA nominating an eligible candidate. All it takes is 653 valid signatures and they are on the ballot. So the membership retains a measure of control over the Nominating Committee. And it looks like...

A Legal Issue with Firearm Serial Numbers

Somewhat more recent problem; GLOCK's with the US suffix on the serial number. Lots of police reports didn't include that, so there was no match when a later check was made with the numbers AND the suffix.

Does anyone have any idea what this 9mm bullet is besides being some kind of lead coated projectile?

Looks like an experimental (and not very good) 9x19mm subsonic round. Used google translate function from here http://www.municion.org/9para/9para.htm

    Ammo storage

One other thing to consider; if you have "enough" ammunition, you are probably overloading the roof trusses. Don't put the couch under where the ammo is, in case it suddenly succumbs to the law of gravity.

    Trijicon Reflex Schematics?

I think part of that inscription is actually a Bible verse, 2 Corinthians verse 4- 6 “Let light shine out of darkness,” Trijicon was known for putting scriptural references on their sights. Got in trouble with the military, who were afraid that followers of the Religion of Peace would be...

    Shooting through auto glass

Much of this discussion seems to be based on "what will a SINGLE handgun bullet do if fired into or out of a vehicle?" I've shot at a moving car once, and shot stationary cars or car doors/windows close to a dozen times. I've also had an opportunity to examine over a hundred shot up cars to...

Distancing yourself from stupid...or the art of unfriending idiots.

Having a wife - and keeping her - tends to cut down on associational threats from "That Guy". Having a daughter - and taking care of her - means that you are now checking for "That Guy" across multiple generations.

How Many Mistakes Did This Homeowner Make?

Am I missing the point (if any) of this story? It happened over 50 years ago and I'm not seeing a tremendous amount of relevance to today. Although the discussion of car wax was interesting.

    S&W Revolver ID ??

I'm going to go with REALLY well scrubbed. Really pitted, and then wire brushed. I've been over it with a magnifying glass and can't find any additional numbers. The area on the underside of the barrel beneath the ejector rod looks like it has been ground down. And the wooden grips actually have...
