Difference in actions for a bolt gun.

To answer the questions above: Unfortunately, where I'm at financially this is more a thought project/ dream. Ideally I would be building a rifle that I could use in a PRS match (but even that is a financial dream because the closest ones to me would be so much travel I would be staying in...

Difference in actions for a bolt gun.

I've started dreaming about a custom rifle so I've been looking into different actions and now I'm wondering: How much difference does the action the rifle is built on matter? I ask this because I started with the idea of finding a sporterized Mauser action, then making it more into a long...

    .45acp Carbine - Effective Range?

Hi, I suppose it depends on what you mean by Effective Range. Since the 230gr is big and slow, it keeps its energy pretty well ( Hornady Balistic Calculator shows 319 ft/lbs and 790 dos at the muzzle and still 227 ft/lbs and 667fps at 250 yards). Your big problem is drop. With a 100 yard...

    nosler bullets-varmegeddon.

Hi, I've shot about 750 of the 55gr in my 20" AR, both the HP and tipped. They shot as well as the V-max did. They were consistently 1" 5 shot groups (I can't shoot much better than that. I see no reason that you couldn't do well under MOA if you have the set up), and even during load...

    Expensive AR lower worth it?

Skillet, That lower won't put rounds on target any better than your $40 lower. If you want it because it looks cool, and the finish might be nicer, then yes, it is worth it. Demos

    Need AR hand guard suggestions

The BCM key mod does look nice. When I started looking into it more the Geissle hand guard kept being mentioned. Does anyone know how they compare? Thanks for al the suggestions, Demos

    Need AR hand guard suggestions

Hi guys, I working on a 16" mid-length gas tube carbine build and I'm looking for a hand guard. I want it free floated, with a rail on top for a BUIS (have the magpul ones already) and I would like to be able to put a sling swivel, and pieces of rail so I can attach a bipod on occasion and...

Bullet weight for .223 at 300 yards

For the record, I'm shooting either 50gr Zombie Max or 55gr Varmigedon bullets now over varget. It's been giving me 5 shot groups of .75-1.25 at 100 yards. It's just for punching paper and getting a ping on steel plates. I'll probably be sticking with those loads. Thanks Demos

Bullet weight for .223 at 300 yards

Hi guys, My range is expanding so we will now be able to shoot out to 300 yards. Before now, it was only a 100 yard range. I've been loading 50 or 55gr bullets in my AR (20 barrel, 1/8 twist, scoped) because they are a little cheaper than the bullets in the 60s and 70s. Is it worth...

    Barrel choices for AR

Tirod, It will primarily be 200 yards and under defensive rifle, and I would like to take some carbine courses with it. I have a heavy barrel 20" AR with a scope for further. Thanks, Demos

    Barrel choices for AR

Hi Guys, I've been working an AR build for a while now, and since I have a bit of money I'm finally ready to buy the barrel, but need some opinions. I'm looking to make a fairly light carbine (not drilling holes in lowers and buying carbon fiber light, but I'm keeping weight in mind). So...

gong target size for 100 & 200 yd

I use ar500 plates after I started hearing ricochets off of mild steel. I also suggest buying cheap tow strap and attaching it to the back of the plate with a carriage bolt. The straps can take a lot of hits before it breaks, unlike a chain. I've also heard old fire hoses or conveyor belts are...

    First 1911 +/- $1000

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a 1911 for myself but I can't seem to get my head around all the options. I'm would like to keep my budget at $1000 but could go as high as $1200 if it's a vastly better gun. Here's what I'm looking for: Made by Colt, Springfield, Kimber, Ruger, Smith and...

    Handgun width and CC Comfort

Hi Everyone, I am going to start conceal carrying soon and have been having a hard time choosing a firearm. I have a Sig P229 with a weapon light and Berreta 92FS but I don't really have a desire to CC it since they are both big fat handguns. So I started looking at different 9mms that don't...

AR Jamming/ bolt not closing With Reloads

Hi, I think I might have been unclear in how I worded my measurements. I used the bullet comparator essentially to compare how far the shoulder of the case was bumped back when resizing. The cases that cycle smoothly had a shoulder that was bumped back and matched where the factory PMC shoulder...

AR Jamming/ bolt not closing With Reloads

Dang, I just looked up the difference between go and no go sizes for 223 and saw its .003 so my .010 difference is definitely going to have to be fixed. It looks like my next day off is going to be some bullet pulling. Thanks, Demos

AR Jamming/ bolt not closing With Reloads

Hi Everyone, I finally had a chance to investigate the problem some more now that I knew what to look for. I loaded 5 rounds into a magazine and then released the bolt on each one to chamber it. After finding which was the easiest of those to eject and the hardest to eject I broke out my...

AR Jamming/ bolt not closing With Reloads

Hi, Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I've been really busy and won't have a chance to check all of this until Wednesday. A little more info: I don't crimp the rounds and there is no cannula to crimp into, but i will still check for crushed shoulders since I've heard of the X Dies...

AR Jamming/ bolt not closing With Reloads

Hi, I will compare some rounds that got stuck to some that didn't/ do the marker test. Should I measure COAL, length from the base to the shoulder, and diameter? If I can't find a difference doing this I'll buy a box of factory and try that. I am using a RCBS x die set so the press barely cams...
