    Help with first 1911, 9mm

Question for your to answer to yourself: Why have you chosen a 1911 instead of a striker fired (M&P, Springfield or whatever). I own one or more 1911, so am not knocking them. You have a number of responses that emphasize the difficulties of proper maintenance if the weapon is not...

Don't reuse the powder. While it is not 'dangerous', the results are unpredictable.

    Normal function on Remington 1100

You are locking the bolt back when you are 'cocking it again'. The bolt is not locked back in normal fire. It is very tricky to manually eject a dummy round and allow loading of the second one without locking the bolt back. You need to bring the bolt back about 98% and release it, and it's...

    Horrible Aim?

What position/rest gives the 8"? If you are shooting standing unsupported, the 8" is not substandard. It will get some better. Just be positive. I own a 36, and I don't know if I can do 8" with it. I shoot maybe 3k a year (for 40 year or so), so I guess I am not a newbie:D. But I still...

Thread for physical conditioning for elk season?

They are usually near the valley. Just one 'hill' from where you want to be. I prefer to kill high and pack downhill. The pack out thing is best done with two guys and a ladder. Try it. The furthest I ever packed a hind quarter is 53 yards.

Thread for physical conditioning for elk season?

If you are going above 8,000 figure on 48 hours minimum for climate adaptation, and longer if over 40. You will not be able to breath normally regardless of condition. Think sore feet. The term tenderfoot was not just a nickname. If you are not a runner, then you will experience very sore...

Rust removal the quick and painless way.

I would be skeptical without the pics. I have used 0000 for various removals for many years. Next week I will try it your way. If only I can find some rust:rolleyes:.

When to replace a recoil spring

Going to be hard to find a user who knows more than the EOM. If the gun is not for defense, why not run it till it malfunctions, and insert the spare spring at that time? Otherwise, 3K is my vote, 1911 or not.

Does anybody aim using their nose to block one eye??

To maintain optimal depth perception you need both eyes. Hopefully we don't need to talk about 'gun fighting', but if you are going to do fun competition, ISPC or whatever, you need the two eyes habit.

Need advice for an economical Bolt Action Rifle

I see Economical, then I see Quality, then I think Oxymoron. Savage of your choice should be a qualifier. I have some (ugly) that are nearly 50 years old, and they shoot 1' from bench. Have a couple with current triggers that do a lot better. My 'quality' guns are a lot prettier, cost 10...
