New owner of a Model 42 Winchester

Great little shotguns. I've had mine for around twenty years. Had some wear, but shoots great. Plus only $150 invested. Felt like I was stealing it. My wife's uncle sold it to me. I wrote the check so fast I thought the ink was smoking.

    Shotgun for "ranch rifle"

I have taken more groundhogs with a shotgun than anything else. But mostly 12ga with 5 or 6 shot. Farthest was probably just over 30 yards.

.35 Rem Cor-Lokt bullet failure (in my opinion)

Photos can be deceiving, especially once the deer is lying down. Standing would probably show true entrance. While I've never had a core loct fail, bullets do fail on occasion. I've been using leverrevolutions for the last few years, with outstanding results.

.35 Rem Cor-Lokt bullet failure (in my opinion)

just curious so don't ridicule me. from the photo of the impact point, how did the shot break a rib? looks like it's too far forward to even touch a rib.

    What Gun For Bears?

What gun for bears. I don't think I would give a gun to a bear, personally. But...since they seem to have shorter arms, I would go with something youth sized in length of pull. However, they are stout built so caliber shouldn't be an issue. Probably should let the bear decide. Sorry. Couldn't...

CCW in Places of Worship or Faith Based

In Ohio it is per pastor discretion like restaurants. Two Sundays ago a pastor in cinnicinati was shot and killed in his office before service. I am the associate pastor of my church and I carry every service. I pray I never ever have to use a weapon against anyone, let alone during a church...

How Far Will a 9mm Kill?

I'd say the 9mm is deadly as far away as it it accurate. And that is dependent on the firearm it is fired from. All calibers are lethal at amazing distances, but the accuracy potential is where they lack. Alot "experts" pooh-pooh many, many rounds, including the 9mm, but placed in a vital...

    New rifle conundrum, elk-ish (long)

I would venter to sat the lowly m94 wincheter or m336 marlin in 30/30 (with the proper bullet) will do the job nicely in a light and handy rifle. Go ahead and pooh-pooh it if you must, but with proper loads and zeroing these rifles are no slouch.

Squirrel hunting with a red dot

I would use a shotgun or .22lr. I can't hit anything with my red dot. But maybe I'm throwing it wrong.

Hunting with an AR15 type rifle?

I know this might ruffle some feathers but......I,personly wouldn't hunt with one. ONLY because those suckers are ugly.:) I know they are accurate and pretty much user friendly. But gawd awful in the looks department. If I have offended anyone by calling your rifle ugly, I do appolgize...

Cowboy Ammo Good For Self/Home Defense ?

I must apologize. You are correct. After I posted this, I realized my error. I just couldn't figure out how to delete it. Open mouth caught the foot again. I was trying to say that CraigC's point has already been proven. Now let us get back on the topic and I will quit higkjacking.

Cowboy Ammo Good For Self/Home Defense ?

It would seem The High Road is not as traveled as the Low Road. Skeeter Skelton, Elmer Keith and many other notable writer/hunters have proven the point suffecently enough for me long ago.

Cowboy Ammo Good For Self/Home Defense ?

No disrespect to any wounded vets.......FMJ and cast lead bullets are to very different slugs. Apples and oranges. FMJ'S were part of the Hague Convention of 1899 "rules of war". If several nations believe FMJ are less "effective" than a cast bullet, which may "deform in the humane body", who...

Cowboy Ammo Good For Self/Home Defense ?

Does it really matter why CAS loads are loaded the way they are? The question was; are they good for self defense or just paper punching. While I would not stand down range from one, they are best suited for what the label on the box says. Jacketed or cast lead? I don't think it...

Cowboy Ammo Good For Self/Home Defense ?

think about it this way. criminals are all cowards. most often, when the shooting starts, bad guys exit post haste. however, if said bad guy does a b&e on some who can actually shoot...they exit leaking or by ambulance. just my two cents.

Tell me about the 35 Remington

Every deer I shot with my 336 marlin has dropped on the spot. I've only used Remington cor-loks in mine, mostly that's all I could fine til hornaday came out with their leverevolutions. I haven't tried them yet. still have brand new box. Soon...;)

    3" bbl Heritage .22WMR?

Personally, I think the double deuce mag is plenty for SD. It out penatrates the .38 spl. Although its a smaller hole. But a small hole where it matters is better than a bigger, shallower hole. But really, who cares, I don't want shot with anything! Shoot what you like or can afford...

    any one carry a.357mag ?

I'm looking to get a CC gun. I'd prefer a revolver. Plus, I already have a 6" Taurus mod. 669 [to big to conceal well] so I like the idea of shared ammo. Anyone carry the "original magnum";)? Why and what?

Bobcat/Coyote Fur Hunting in PA. How hard is it?

Predator hunting can be very challenging. But, if you are going to go with some experienced partners, then just try to learn as much as you can from them. Unless it is unethical. If that is the case find new partners. there are plenty of hunting websites where you can gain useful...
