Great little shotguns. I've had mine for around twenty years. Had some wear, but shoots great. Plus only $150 invested. Felt like I was stealing it. My wife's uncle sold it to me. I wrote the check so fast I thought the ink was smoking.

I have taken more groundhogs with a shotgun than anything else. But mostly 12ga with 5 or 6 shot. Farthest was probably just over 30 yards.

Photos can be deceiving, especially once the deer is lying down. Standing would probably show true entrance. While I've never had a core loct fail, bullets do fail on occasion. I've been using leverrevolutions for the last few years, with outstanding results.

just curious so don't ridicule me. from the photo of the impact point, how did the shot break a rib? looks like it's too far forward to even touch a rib.

What gun for bears. I don't think I would give a gun to a bear, personally. But...since they seem to have shorter arms, I would go with something youth sized in length of pull. However, they are stout built so caliber shouldn't be an issue. Probably should let the bear decide. Sorry. Couldn't...

I would venter to sat the lowly m94 wincheter or m336 marlin in 30/30 (with the proper bullet) will do the job nicely in a light and handy rifle. Go ahead and pooh-pooh it if you must, but with proper loads and zeroing these rifles are no slouch.

I would use a shotgun or .22lr. I can't hit anything with my red dot. But maybe I'm throwing it wrong.

think about it this way. criminals are all cowards. most often, when the shooting starts, bad guys exit post haste. however, if said bad guy does a b&e on some who can actually shoot...they exit leaking or by ambulance. just my two cents.

Every deer I shot with my 336 marlin has dropped on the spot. I've only used Remington cor-loks in mine, mostly that's all I could fine til hornaday came out with their leverevolutions. I haven't tried them yet. still have brand new box. Soon...;)

Personally, I think the double deuce mag is plenty for SD. It out penatrates the .38 spl. Although its a smaller hole. But a small hole where it matters is better than a bigger, shallower hole. But really, who cares, I don't want shot with anything!:eek: Shoot what you like or can afford...

Predator hunting can be very challenging. But, if you are going to go with some experienced partners, then just try to learn as much as you can from them. Unless it is unethical. If that is the case find new partners. there are plenty of hunting websites where you can gain useful...
