My latest rendition of the Avenger

I've made some version of an Askins Avenger style holster for a while now, but it has gone through many, many design iterations. This is the latest, and I'm pretty happy with it. I decided to try one that rides higher, and these are what I came up with. Continued...

    Browning Hi-Power Need Help Indentifying

It isn't uncommon for Israeli surplus hi powers to have altered or re-stamped (or even scratched in by hand) serial numbers. It's hard to tell for sure from the pics, but the mark on the port side trigger guard does appear to be an Israeli proof. The Israelis bought tons of BHPs...

    A few new pics

Here are a few recent things from the bench.

    I've made another holster.

BCRider - how do you apply your dye? Do you apply any other finish than shoe polish? I'm wondering if you get any dye rubbing off on your clothes. Leatherwork is fun, isn't it? :D

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

I've read about it, I just don't really want to mess with it right now. I might experiment with it at some point. I have to be honest, a big part of my reluctance is that I hate the smell of vinegar. The thought of working with it or around it isn't appealing to me. I know a lot of...

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

Certainly. It's based on the pancake in picture #1, but altered to ride 3/4" higher, and has the aforementioned extended body shield. Wes

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

Believe me, I totally understand, and I'm sympathetic. I have made such modifications for customers. In fact, I'm shipping one tomorrow for a gent that wanted the body shield to cover the entire hammer of a cocked and locked BHP. I call it the "love handle saver." :D Thanks for the comments...

No problem! Feel free to message me if you ever have any questions. There are also a TON of folks who can help you out on the Leatherworker.net forums. ;) Wes

Can anyone tell me what make and model this handgun is? PICS

It's a FEG (Hungarian Hi Power clone). FN/Browning has never used slide stops like that, and the notch in the slide that engages the slide stop is smaller than on real Hi Powers. Genuine BHPs have also never been made with a flared frontstrap like that, either. FEGs can be decent shooters...

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

I haven't seen what kind of leather stuff Hobby Lobby carries (in fact, I never even knew they did!), but I've found that most leather out there is pretty crappy. Just about anything you get from Tandy will suck also. Their Royal Meadow leather is pretty decent, but happens to cost more than...

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

Also, look into getting an awl with a diamond-shaped blade. It's the only thing I've found that gives the stitching a chance of looking good. The awl doesn't remove any material, and the hole will close around the stitch. With practice, it will also give you that machine-like zig-zag pattern...

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

I certainly don't consider myself an expert, but I'd be happy to share what I've learned. A couple thing that really help: use an edge creaser/groover to mark the outer stitch line, and use pencil to mark the stich lines along the top and bottom edges of the gun. Then use an overstitch wheel...

I'm considering becoming a CCDW instructor. Any advice?

My two cents is to make sure that you actually enjoy instructing. Lots of guys do this thinking they're going to get rich (you're not), and don't really care about giving quality instruction or helping folks. Wes

They're actually gray/black G10 composite, the lighting in those pics does make it look sort of bluish, though. :) They're available at Mil-Tac Knife & Tool. If it's a pattern that I've already made, I can usually have it cut, stitched, molded, and dried in 2 days. Dye takes another day, and...

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

Thanks for the kind words, folks. :) My pleasure. :) The leather is Hermann Oak 7/8oz. The dye is Fiebing's Pro Oil Black. I haven't messed around with vinegaroon yet. It's more of a chemical process than a dye -- it actually causes the leather itself to turn black. If you don't...

Showing off some leather (pic heavy)

I haven't been around very regularly lately, but I thought I'd share some pics of what's been occupying my time these days. This one was for a friend's Glock 21 with a "clipdraw" attachment. To be continued... Wes

    golden sabre .45 acp

Golden Saber is good stuff, but you do see core/jacket separations with them pretty frequently. Remington does make a Bonded Golden Saber, but they aren't terribly easy to find. At last year's SHOT show, Remington had promo materials for the Golden Saber "Black Belt," which looked like a...

    New Remington R51 - 3913 killer?

I've been fascinated by the Model 51 for a long time, so I'm really excited about this. In fact, I'm more excited about this thing than I've been about a gun in a long time.
