Very interesting series of articles in Shotgun News British Home Guard

I asked my good friend, and expert on US military arms, Bruce Canfield about this. While he does not have any definite figures he believes that 800,000 sounds way too high considering that only about one million were retained by the US Army after WWI and many thousands were used as training...

Very interesting series of articles in Shotgun News British Home Guard

Jim: I do not check in here very often. I am afraid I do not recall ever receiving your letter. Was it mailed to me c/o the Shotgun News? I have made note of what you said about the number of M1917s. Can you supply sources for the information? I will then look into it and make corrections...

Shooting USPSA major caliber as a newbie

eerw - well the boxes may be from Atlanta arms but what's in them might be another matter. :D I have nothing against someone shooting custom reloaded ammo - that's 100% legal in USPSA - but when they brag that they shoot "factory" guns and ammo, and then don't....well, according to how you...

Shooting USPSA major caliber as a newbie

A friend of mine shot with Sevigny at a match in Virginia last year. Dave S. claims he shoots "factory" ammo (I forget the brand) in his "stock" Glock pistols but at the end of a stage he cleared his pistol and dropped a round on the ground. He began to walk away but when he saw my friend pick...

    Wishing for a Ruger 1911

Perhaps Ruger just has too much good sense?

Which 9mm pistols meet these constraints?

While I love my BHP, I think getting a single action pistol presents you with too many limitations. Have one for competition by all means but for CCW/home defense something with a DA/SA, DAO or Safe Action trigger would make more sense.

What is your favorite type of handgun.

S&W K-frame revolver, round butt grip, Hogue grips with 3" or 5" barrel. Ergonomic perfection! Runner up - Beretta 96 Elite.

    Para-Ordnance 9mm Hawg 9

I just got my hands on one of the new Para Hawg 9 mini-1911 pistols chambered for the 9mm Para. It comes with all the "bells & whistles" you 1911 fans demand but is chambered for a cartridge that makes it a very controllable and accurate little package. Hell, loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm +P+...

    9mm - too many choices!

Quit making a mountain out of a molehill. Buy a Glock 17/19 and you will find true happiness.

If you had only one shot to defend yourself and had to choose between these calibers,

MattW - reread my post. I choose the 9mm because I can shoot pistols chambered for it faster and more accurately than any other centerfire handgun I own. Nuff said! Fast, accurate shot placement is more important than bullet diameter!

    Model 1899 M&P Snubbie?

It's a chop job. The shortest factory barrel on the M1899 was 4 inches and they had round blade (half moon) front sights, not ramped blades. And all had round butt grips. Pass it by!

    9mm in IPSC production class

Werewolf - according to USPSA rules Poppers have to be calibrated to fall to a standard velocity 115 gr. 9mm load. If they don't demand a test. I have never had a properly calibrated Popper fail to fall to a 9mm hit in the upper 75% of the "body."

    Which sights?

Any adjustable sight that costs less than $100 ain't worth sh.....well, you know. :barf:

    Anyone Not Have a 9mm?

I find it interesting that the pistol JMB carried for personal defense was an FN Mle. 1900 in .32 ACP. Hmmmmmm.....

    Glock 19?????'s

The Glock 19 is safe with all factory +P and +P+ ammunition. I keep my G17 loaded with Winchester 127 gr. +P+ Ranger. It shoots great and functions perfectly.

    Glock 21 grip reduction

My local 'smith did a grip reduction on my G21 (which included a brass Seattle Slug) and it is now the best handling Glock I own. He also charged significantly less than the Robar guys and IMHO it's a much better job. E-mail me for his name and phone #.

What gun do you want in your hand?

My Glock 17 loaded with W-W 127 gr. +P+ ammo. Which is just what I used for home defense and - in cooler weather - CCW.
