New Pietta 1858, is it a problem?

Well, I have the same model Pietta as you that I bought from DGW 3 years ago. I have shot it with both cap and ball and 45 LC in a Howell conversion cylinder. Both hit dead on windage wise at 25 and 50 yards from the bench and offhand. Looking at my front sight from the shooting perceptive, my...

    Shelf life of propellants?.......

Yes, I still have Goex 2 and 3 F I bought in the late 70s that still burn, plus caps.

    Light carbine concept

In part I agree with Ratshooter. I have a Rossi 92 carbine in.357 MAG/38SPL. I own bolt guns, ARs and a PTR91...that little lightweight Rossi is my favorite shooter...38SPL for plinking and 357 for close range hunting or serious work. Don't need to carry mags around, can reload and go as needed...

    The THR 1851/1860 Club

Just saw the thread today. Here is my Navy Arms 1860 kit that I built in the early '80s. Has it's second wedge and hand with spring. Still shooting! Regards, Rudedog

    Pick a caliber...

6.5 Creedmore is a barrel burner, 260 REM may be dying but is alive and well by the people who have been using it since it came out.

    Is Colt gone?

Well I still have my Series 70 that I bought in nineteen hundred and seventy eight. I bought it because I was trained on the 1911 and it was my 21st birthday. I was under the impression that they hand fitted those guns back in the day. I did have the throat opened, feed ramp polished and...

Dad's Sporterized Mauser (I think) - What to do?

I have a custom 98 that I did most of the work. Looking at your 4th pic it appears that your stock is cut out for a more modern safety. Buy a Bold trigger system with safety (check out Boyd's stocks website) and replace the trigger unit you have which sounds like it is worn out. That or the sear...

    Finally, a 1911

When I turned 21 in '78 I bought myself a Colt Series 70. I still have it and it runs great! Many thousands of rounds thru it.

    Military Heritage Arms

Anybody have any experience with Military Heritage and their flintlocks? The prices seem good but they come with unvented barrels (for shipping purposes) and some internet reviews say they have teak wood stocks, are made in India and stay away!

Shooting Black Powder in Cartridge Guns

I've shot .45 Colt BP and 777 loads out of my Howell conversion cylinder Pietta '58 New Army. Very accurate, both powders are messy but BP is more accurate. I used both 200 grain Speer lead semi wadcutters and 230 grain Meister hard cast. I used 40 grain charges which required heavy compression...

    New Winchester 1873 or 1892?

I do have a Rossi 92 in .357 MAG, tuned it and it is 100% reliable. I would love to get a '66 Yellow Boy in .44-40

Ar15 trigger upgrade, geissele or what?

I like the Geissele, smooth and predictable.

    Custom 1851 .44

Nice, thinking about doing the same thing to an old Navy Arms 1860 Colt kit gun I built sometime around '78-'80.

    Under-valued 9mms?? Yeah, again.

Recently I bought a full size Rock Island 1911A2 .22 TCM, the one with the extra 9mm barrel and recoil spring. The .22 TCM is cool but the 9mm rocks! I bought Meggar P18 mags for it and the 9mm runs flawlessly. Everything about the pistol is excellent (trigger pull, fit and finish, etc) except...

Would You Trust Your Life With A .380?

.380 not really. But since .22 LR has been in a real shortage on the shelf, 9mm is the new .22.

    Tikka T3?

I have a Lite in .300 WIN MAG and a Hunter in .260 REM. Both are sub-MOA with my reloads. The .300 is definitely a sharp/heavy recoiling rifle especially from the bench when testing loads, way more so than my Mauser 98 in .35 Whelen. My T3 .260 is my favorite bolt action, and I've owned...
