Saving or Protecting Guns From A House Fire?

I'm not an expert but am educated in some areas. Licensed professional engineer (4 year degree); state of TN basic firemanship (57 hours) plus 4 live burns, and level II thermographer (80 - hour course). Energy in the form of heat travels in three ways: convection, conduction, and...

    R Guns Mosins

Any C&R holders ever order direct from R Guns? a couple I got have them as the importer, so I'm thinking of going direct. I couldn't search on this site for "R guns" without getting "r" and "guns" in each thread. I've seen older threads on other forums that their customer service is not all...

    Swiss K31 or Yugo 24/47 ?

Graf's had 'em last summer, they don't always have them but keep your eyes peeled. To the OP: have you decided yet? Pics or it didn't happen. :)

Reloading GP11 / Berdan primed brass

Maq, I've heard that hydraulic depriming is the way to go. I was even studying an arbor press at Harbor Freight yesterday, but figured that water and cheap chinese steel would be a rust factory. Didn't consider wood... gotta try that one out.

    Mauser-itis...

The Gustaf certainly had the best bore. I didn't study it much due to the sticker shock; I did notice that it didn't have the threaded muzzle end like I've seen on some Swedes. I'll have to go back and study it and the others too. Joined and been reading on mausercentral. :)

    Swiss K31 or Yugo 24/47 ?

I have a couple M48's, a 24/52, and neither compares to the K-31. I'd buy both, but get the K-31 first. I'm actually pondering a K-1911 Schmidt-Rubin too. I shot the best offhand I've ever shot with my K-31. A 94. And I don't own a shooting coat... just me, the rifle, in jeans and a...

    Mauser-itis...

Cruised by one of the LGSs today that I usually don't frequent... just had a few minutes to kill. Back in a little alcove, out of the main flow of traffic, they had a rack of milsurps. They had M44 Mosins for $299-349... a Gustavs 6.5 for $599... but then I spotted a Spanish M1916 still...

Wait time at Nashville show this Sat., at noon?

Franklin show.... My uncle / cousin tried to go to the show in Franklin in Mid January. I-65 at the Ag Expo Center just south of Franklin. 10:30 there was a 1/2 mile line of cars and no parking. They gave up. Every gun show I've heard about in Nashville area lately (Hendersonville...

SAAMI video on ammunition and fire fighter safety

Excellent video. I've seen those effects first hand, it's really underwhelming. One house was owned by a pair of national guardsmen; they had thousands of rounds of ammo. Drove the arson dog nuts; he kept hitting on the remnants of ammo cans that were under the beds. Been there, done...

Is burning rate vol/time or mass/time?

Interesting that you mention that. I have noticed how slowly Varget burns at atmospheric pressure. I spilled a little, swept it up, and carried it out into the driveway... I had never burned any spilled powder before; so I was ducking and covering and lighting it with a long lighter and a...

Is burning rate vol/time or mass/time?

I've seen the relative burning rate charts, but I've never seen what the burning rates mean. Since VMDs vary quite a bit, is burning rate in units of volume or mass? I don't think I'd substitute a powder away from published data based on the burning rate charts... just curioius. I've...

    MEC 600Jr Mark V question

Cool. that settles it. I am really enjoying the 28. 3/4 oz of new shot and the new-old-stock stuff I bought at a gun show, I'm loading for around $4 a box. I even bought some of the old Win AA (not the HS hulls) for $4 a 100 at the same show. So you get nearly the payload of a 20 ga...

Reloading GP11 / Berdan primed brass

First of all: no load data I could find published or even discussed in other forums mentioned using military brass and Tula primers. So I will not discuss load data here, just the process. I don't know how to post pictures and so I didn't take any this time. But, I figured out how to...

    MEC 600Jr Mark V question

Well I just got my Christmas gift from my wife set up :) and running and it is making nicely crimped shells. I have used the Lee Load-All IIs for years but they don't make one in 28 ga. so off to Mayville it was. I also am lacking a .410 press and have amassed quite a bit of spent 2 1/2"...

    454 casull reloading questions

I have loaded using W296 and both the 250 and 300 XTPs in Winchester virgin brass, and like the accuracy I get from those. I have also reloaded the Starline brass out of Corbon ammo with good results using 296 and the XTPs. I use Win small rifle primers. I have loaded 5 test rounds using...

    Thermal Imagers

I use a FLIR EX320 at work. Shoot electrical substations, elbows, and pole top switches. We bought their long range lens, it was $2700 about 2005. But it is absolutely necessary on that 320x240 camera at 40' or better. A set of switch contacts 6" long at 40' is nothing but a blip on the...

    Powder brand loyalty

I'm partial to the 8 lb jug of stuff that I bought for $40 that says load it like Accurate 2460 I wish I could find some more. I load it in .223 and .308.

Lee Classic Turret Press...My First Reloads! ...Questions!

I'll echo what SSN Vet said, the bump on the up stroke of the handle is the flare hitting on the way out of the die. If I get that I lessen the flare. That makes me feel better about not wearing out brass too fast and having neck tension problems. I have noticed my regular auto-disk being...

LGS has Winchester Model 12... what to look at?

@ rcmodel... it was at a gun show; zip-tie required to prevent chambering a round. however most everyone else just zip-ties a pumpgun loosely through the ejection port through the bottom so at least the action can be partway worked and the bore condition inspected. thanks for the tips on...
