Sears 300 20 ga, not a Ted Williams?

Hi all. I recently picked up a nice Sears 300 20ga, 2 3/4", 28" plain barrel with a fixed, full choke, single bead sight, and no checkering. Barrel code is CF and the SN is Q79xxx, on the left side of the receiver. It does not say "Ted Williams" on it anywhere. Were all of the Sears guns Ted...

    Bolt-Action 30-30

I have an opportunity to pick up a nice looking Coast to Coast 843 (savage 340/Springfield 840) in 30-30. I don’t own a centerfire bolt-action rifle, but I do have a model 94, which reload for. The model 94 is a pain, honestly, because the sights are not great and I fear the scoping it is going...

    SKS or AR?

HI all. A little background, first. I recently purchased a PSA middy rifle kit to go with the Anderson lower I had purchased a few months before that. I've built and fired a few ARs before, but couldn't really love them. They're cheap and light and modular, and uppers can be switched out for...

    S&W 28-2 price check

A friend of mine is downsizing and getting rid of some stuff, including a rough Smith 28-2 4”. The bluing is 100% completely absent, and there is some rust and putting, but none of that seems very deep. It also has a set of Pachmyr Presentation stocks in place of the factory one. It shoots, and...

    FliteControl wads and cylinder bores

Has anybody patterned loads that use Federal Flitecontrol wads in a shotgun with a cylinder bore? I have read that a less restrictive choke, applying less friction on the Flitecontrol wad, allows the shot to stay in the wad longer, leading to tighter patterns. Conversely, a tight choke will...

    20ga barrel on 16ga receiver?

I recently traded for an 870 advertised as a 20ga. When I got it home, I realised that this shotgun is actually a 16ga (“W” suffix) wearing a 20ga barrel. The previous owner lived to tell me that he put 5 slugs through it with no issue. Is this safe?

    How rare is this?

I’ve recently become the caretaker of my Father-in-law’s A5. It’s a 1940-48 Remington-made “American Browning”, the numbers all match, and it’s in superb condition. I feel guilty taking it out in the field, but I do so, occasionally, anyway. The rarity question is one concerning the fixed choke...

    It's like the opposite of a hollow-point

I was loading some .45 auto the other night when I found this in a bag of Remington 230 grain FMJ bullets. Apparently, there is a bit of the lead core poking out from the nose of the bullet. Probably just a manufacturing defect but, let's speculate a bit: Is this Remington's new Narwal/Unicorn...

Price Check: Win. Mod. 70 Black Shadow 30-06

Just picked up one of these used. Great condition; used but not abused. Fired 9 rounds through it on Saturday and decided that I need a .223 and I'm going bow hunting this year! haha Anyway, what's a good price on one of these? With AR prices coming down, I'm thinking of trading it for an...

    Scope question

I recently purchased a rifle with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x50 scope. I know nothig of optics so I have two questions: 1) Can anybody tell me about this scope in particular? It's on a Win Mod 70 30-06. 100 yard plinking and occasional deer hunting in the WI woods. Seems like a decent scope...

    Charles Daly Hi-Power

Hi all I have the opportunity to purchase a LNIB Charles Daly Hi-Power, with box and two 13-rd magazines. It's the model with the big XS sights, bigger safety, rubber grips and ring hammer. It has also has had the mag safety removed and the guy claims the triggers is fantastic. I've looked...

    Ao 1911

Well, I finally did it. I bought a 1911. I picked up this Auto Ordnance (Kahr, not Numrich) 1911a1 just a few hours ago. It came with some Pachmayr grips and extra mag. Looks brand new to me. So far, I like it. It feels good in my hand and there is no obnoxious billboard plastered all over the...

    Full size 9mm options

Greetings all Another thread got me thinking about this and I wanted to get some opinions from people who know, so here goes. Come tax time I will have a little money to spend on a new gun. I don't own a handgun right now (sold my 22 because I cant find ammo and sold my 45 because I'd rather...

    Which stock for my carbine?

Hi all I recently picked up a Hi-Point 995 carbine (chrome, no less!) that still wears the old POTA (Planet Of The Apes) stock. It fits me nicely and looks fine (to me) but it's worn out and the two halves don't fit together so well anymore. There are three options out there that I know...

    Suppressed Hi-Points?

Both of the smaller framed pistols (.380 and 9mm) came in a model with a longer barrel, onto which a compensator is attached with, I believe, a set screw. Could that length of barrel be threaded to accept a suppressor? I think the carbines work the same way, as they all have compensators too.

    Missouri Bullet 30-30 options

When using MBC bullets for your 30-30, do you prefer 135 grain bullets or 165 grain bullets? Why?

    30-06 and COAL

I recently pulled 60 Sierra 125 grain Pro-Hunter JHP/FN bullets out of 30-30 cases so could use them in my 30-06. Not the best bullet choice but, it's what I have on hand right now. The load data that I have from Lee states that a 125 grain jacketed bullet loaded with H4895 should have a...

    Lighter bullets for the .30-'06

This is related to another thread I started so please, bear with me on this one. I thought about combining these two threads but, I think the two issues are different enough to merit separate threads. On to the issue at hand... I want to use some Sierra 125 grain JHP/FN bullets in my...

    Bullet Pullers 101

Can somebody school me on bullet pullers? I have some 30-30 rounds I am thinking of dismantling but, I have never used a bullet puller and have no idea how they work. I don't want to ruin anything; saving the bullets and powder is paramount. The cases and primers...not so much. I have plenty of...

    Stinky Stocks

I just purchased a used rifle with a wooden stock. It had obviously been kept in the home a smoker because the stock reeks of cigarette smoke. What is the best way to fix this, short of getting a new stock?
