Hodgdon has some subsonic .308 Winchester loads with Titegroup and Trail Boss listed in their online data, but nothing in 7.62x39. If gas gun function isn't an issue, my favorite powders for subsonic 7.62x39 are Red Dot for cast bullets and Trail Boss for jacketed.

In my experience (mostly with smokeless powder and bottleneck rifle cartridges), the paper not only separates, but usually blows into confetti as it exits the bore. Here's a link to a page dedicated to paper patching smokeless powder cartridges.

I've pulled a bunch of dud .22 LR bullets using an RCBS collet puller. Since I didnt have a shellholder that fit the rim of a .22 LR case, I used a large primer shellholder and inserted the .22 shell up through the priming hole. Then held the round in place with my finger while I very lightly...

Assuming decent hunting bullets and good shot placement, it's very unlikely that a deer or hog is going to complain about being killed by an obviously inferior round.

Phil Spangenberger makes a pretty good case for the use of spare cylinders in the Old West times.

They do, but it's shots through the brain or brain stem that (usually) kill quickly and allow you to efficiently reduce shot game to table meat. A deer with its nose or lower jaw shot away doesn't die any faster than one that's been gut shot.

My first Arisaka, a Type 38 6.5x50sr, cost me less than half as much as the first box of ammo I bought for it. Back in the early 70's, Norma was it for 6.5 Jap ammo/brass (and they were damn proud of the stuff).

It looks more like a pinhole leak in the primer than leakage between the primer and case to me. If that's what actually happened, then the case is probably fine. Look at it closely under high magnification or maybe try sticking a needle into that black spot on the edge of the primer between 3...
