Does someone know a trick to getting Lee case length gages to screw into the cutter? I had a stubborn one in the past, but was able to fool with the threaded end using a screw driver to make it work. I'm on my second .223 gage, having jaked up the first one using vice grips.
I got this one...
I got a couple of sub-MOA groups in my wife's .243 with Ramshot Hunter and Barnes 85-grain TSXs. Problem is the primers were a little cratered and starting to flatten. The charges were .5 grain and 1 grain over the listed max. Hunter is supposed to be temperature resistant. Would you consider...
I want to start loading for my father-in-law's .270, a caliber with which I have no experience. I know 130 grain bullets are the most popular, but are they the best for Wisconsin white tails at close to medium range? Would a heavier bullet be less prone to blowing up or am I worrying too much?
Anyone have any favorite loads for their 6.5x55 using Barnes TSXs and Ramshot Hunter? Maybe there's at least one or two folks out there that use this combination.
In response to a post on my earlier thread, will it hurt to leave a coating of PB Blaster in the bore instead of Kroil? PB Blaster I have. Kroil I have not.
I have some Tetra solvent and Barnes CR-10, along with some less intensive general purpose bore cleaners. It still took quite a bit of scrubbing to get all the copper out of my Ruger's bore (should have remembered Barnes' recommendation to get ALL the fouling out before shooting up a bunch of...
Does Ramshot Hunter seem to be any more accurate in your rifles than IMR or H4350? I'm using IMR 4350 in my .243 and 6.5x55. If Hunter isn't more accurate than H414, I'm not going to bother with it.
I saw some posts on another forum that mentioned using 7 mm Rem Mag cases for loading the .257 Weatherby Mag. Anyone over here tried this? Some of the dimensions are very similar, but the .257 WM cases have more powder capacity . . .
This goes back to the old argument of complete penetration for bigger blood trails or having the bullet expend all of its energy within the game animal.
Is using a heavier bullet for deer in a light caliber like .243 or .25-06 sort of working against the natural strengths of the calibers...
The wife is looking at getting a hunting rifle to accompany me in the deer woods this coming season. The Savage package rifle at Wal-Mart fits the bill, probably in .243. Thing is, I had feeding issues with a Model 10 I bought at Wal-Mart a while back. This new gun has the new and improved...
I shot this at about 90 yards with my Ruger M77mII 6.5x55 using Hornady 95-grain V-Maxs in front of 48 grains of IMR 4350 with standard Federal primers and Remington brass. My first two groups looked like sub-groups of two and five, this was just the best one. These aren't really hot loads. Do...
Is there enough difference in case capacity between the two manufacturers' offerings in 6.5x55 for me to concern myself over? The load I will be using is 42 grains of IMR 4350 (.4 grain below max) behind a 129 grain bullet. This fills about 80% of the case in the Remington cases I've been using...
Has anyone had any experience with the new Savage magazines? They work sort of like a double stack pistol mag, with one centered round at the top of the magazine, instead of two staggered rounds being visible.
Any feeding problems?
Thanks
Matthew
My wife has finally said "maybe" to going deer hunting with me next season. I'm thinking now is a good time to fill in gaps in my hunting rifle collection (which is essentially one gun - a Ruger Model 77mII in 6.5x55). She is of average size and stature and likes the feel of the Tikka T3 Lite...
