    HK 91 / PTR 91 / G3 thread

stubbicat, any leads on where I can find an original illuminator for my Hensoldt Fero-Z24? It's the one piece I'm missing. CTD and other places have some knock-offs available, but the price is way too high ($25) for the terrible quality. I'd gladly pay $25+ for an original, if I could find it.

    HK 91 / PTR 91 / G3 thread

Sorry, Z-Mich. I don't have a port buffer and don't know where to get one. My solution is simple -- just shoot milsurp ammo! It's not reloadable, anyway, due to the berdan primed cases.

What bolt action .22lr for kids and at what age?

I like the Henry youth rifle. My dad bought one for my boys, and it seems to be well made and perfect for those just starting out. When they get a little older (bigger), they'll move up to my Ruger 77/22. It was a gift from my dad when I turned 16 some 20+ years ago. Yes, my dad is awesome.

    HK 91 / PTR 91 / G3 thread

I have had a PTR-91 for about four years now. What can I say about it? Well... It's HEAVY. And terribly balanced (weight is very forward). The OEM stocks were cheaply made. The ergonomics suck. The trigger was the heaviest, creepiest thing ever. The BATFE-mandated push button mag release...

    Magpul PRS

I have one on my PTR-91. As Janitor said, it's heavy! But since my PTR is heavy and poorly balanced to begin with, it actually helps the balance issue somewhat. I like it a lot. In my view, it's the best option by far for a scoped G3.

FAL - what am I doing wrong?

Scope is mounted with DSA tactical rings to a DSA Extreme Duty scope mount. Everything is tight. No evidence of bullets hitting the flash hider. I will be removing the scope and shooting with the irons (and the gas system open) this weekend, and then work from there.

    HK 91 Mag release

On the G3, the pin that holds the lower in place also serves as an "axle" of sorts for the paddle mag release. As TBL stated, BATFE required that the pin be deleted from the HK91 (semiauto version of G3) to prevent full auto lowers from being attached to semi auto receivers. As a result...

FAL - what am I doing wrong?

Thanks, all. I'm embarrassed to admit that I never really tested her on paper with the irons before having the scope mounted. I did some plinking but never really tried to check accuracy. The flash hider looks fine. I'm going to remove it and inspect the muzzle. I'm also going to take the...

    Help Identify .22 lever action

Probably either a Winchester 9422, Marlin 39 or Brownling BL-22.

FAL - what am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately, I can't use the irons with the scope mounted. I'd have to take the scope off to check how it shoots with the irons. Good thought, though.

FAL - what am I doing wrong?

Hmmmm. If I remove the flash hider can I detect crown damage just by visual inspection? Any tips for removing the flash hider? It seems to be on there pretty tight. I don't even know whether it is a left or right hand thread.

    New DSA FAL

Nice rifle. I have an SA58 para carbine with the 16.25" barrel, and I also got a couple of the 30 round mags for it. Have you shot yours, yet? I imagine that the muzzle flash and blast has to be fierce from that thing.

FAL - what am I doing wrong?

I put new scopes on my FAL and G3 in the last year, and took both of them to the range today to sight them in for the first time. I started with the G3, and it went smoothly. My G3 is actually an early PTR-91 (polygonal barrel, plain muzzle) made up as a "poor man's PSG-1" with a Magpul...

45 Colt or 44-40 lever gun

I'm not a fan of the .45 Colt in lever guns. If you reload, the 44-40 is an excellent cartridge. The slight bottleneck (more of a taper, really) and thin brass really seal the chamber well, so you get no blowback at all. That keeps the action very clean, and you get smooth, reliable feeding...

    .22LR Bolt Action Rifle?

Why would you want a .22 that is as heavy as a centerfire rifle? One of the real pleasures of .22 rifles is how light they are. I have a Ruger 77/22 bolt action (10 shot rotary mag) that is one of my favorite rifles. If you want a heavyweight .22, you need to go to a bull barrel target...

Actual 7.62 NATO velocity loss - 21" bbl to 16" bbl

Great data, kris. Thanks for posting. As for muzzle blast, I have a 16.25" barrel Para FAL and an 18" barrel PTR-91. I can't tell any difference in muzzle blast between them. I've also fired a 21" barrel FAL quite a bit -- no noticeable difference to me. On the other hand, my dad's shop...

    Colt LE6921

There are certainly dealers and private sellers who have them. The distributors are all out right now, however, which means if I want one now I have to pay retail. I'll wait and buy one wholesale when the distirbutors have them again.

    Colt LE6921

The Colt LE 6921 is pretty much the exact same thing as the US Military M4, with the exception that the M4 is select fire and the LE 6921 is semiauto only. That's why I want one -- it's the closest thing you can get to an M4. My sources are telling me that there are none to be had right now...

    Standard or Para FAL?

I mounted an IOR Valdada 1.1-4x tactical scope on my SA58 Para, and I love it:
