    ID a pistol

Have a 36 cal pistol and wondering about manufacturer and value. The only markings I can find on it are a BZ in a small box on the right side of the frame. On the cylinder there's a wrap around engraving of what looks to be a stagecoach being robbed. Help?

Shot makers: trade lead for shot

Currently have 2,700 pounds of lead poured into 2 pound ingots. 2,220 Pounds of melted wheel weights and 480 pounds of soft lead from roof flashings. You need to be in reasonable distance of east central Illinois. We would be willing to drive 100 or so miles and meet for the swap. Would prefer...

Powder load for a 1851 Navy

Next question is how close to the end of the cylinder does the ball need to be. I used 25 grains of FFFG and a commercial pre-lubed felt patch. After pressing the ball in (and shaving off the required ring of lead), the ball sits about 1/4" down into the cylinder. Is the ball supposed to be...

Powder load for a 1851 Navy

Bought one from Cabella's. A F.lli Pietta 1851 Reb Nord Navy in 44 caliber. It's a little confusing from my side. First, somewhere on this forum it was recommended that a ".457 soft lead ball be used. The F.LLI book says a ".454 ball and the Cabella's manual that came with it says a ".451 ball...

    Scope mounting-CVA HAwken

Last of the questions I think I know the answer to, but have been told otherwise by others. have a 45 Cal CVA Hawken. It has a pretty darned thick octagon barrel. I want to mount a scope base (dovetail type) on it. The base does have a flat bottom for the octagon barrel. Question: Can I...

    Casting wheelweights

If you want soft lead, find yourself a roofer or two. Preferably one that does commercial work. Soft lead was used for roof flashings, and most roofers throw it away when replacing the roof.

    Casting wheelweights

"72coupe, how do you tell the difference in the zinc from the lead wheel weights?" The Zinc weights will be marked Zn somewhere. They may LOOK like lead weights, or they may be flat rectangular weights with sticky tape on the back. Zinc weights will melt, but you'll have to get the temp up...

    Lead for shot trade

Have right at 1800 lbs of lead ingots. 440Lbs came from lead roofing flashings, so it's soft stuff. All the rest came from wheel weights. All is melted into 2lb muffins. Located in east central Illinois, about 125 miles south of Chicago. Zinc weights (at least all I could fine while hand...

How does gun trade between private parties work ?

Illinois Make up a bill of transfer (both ways) and include the weapon mfg, type, caliber and S/N, have a copy of the other person's FOID card included, along with the date of transfer. Store it in your files. We just had locally a young man, convicted felon, ticketed for unlawful discharge...

    CVA Hawken

Picked up a CVA Hawken the other day and am not too familiar with either BP or it. Plan is to take it with me to east Texas in the spring for pig hunting. Will be using .433 balls w/patch (because I have the mold). Also have a pound of Pyrodex ffg (P) and fffg(RS), and a pound of real fffg BP...
