American Select and the 45 colt

Finally got to testing today. American Select works closer to Green Dot than Red Dot in my guns. I went up to 7.0 grains with no pressure signs at all and velocity very close to my 7.0 grain green dot load. Recoil felt noticeably softer and report not as sharp. Very clean. Doc.

    32 Winchester Special

30/30 brass is all I use in my Win 94 32 spl. It works great is cheap and plentiful and I don't own a 30/30 so I don't worry about feeding real 30/30 fodder in my 32 spl. I shoot cast bullets and the 32 spl. and cast are made for each other. Keeps costs down to. Doc.

American Select and the 45 colt

Thank-you bds. Got your PM. My bullet is a RNFP flat base; It is a RCBS 235 gr die that actually averages 242 gr when sized and lubed for me. Not looking to more velocity than my old Red Dot load which was 6.6 gr and averaged about 1020 fps in my Rossi and 860 in the Ruger. I will start...

American Select and the 45 colt

I received a PM that I could use load data from Red Dot safely and up to mid Green Dot loads. I will proceed slowly. Thanks kindly

American Select and the 45 colt

Thank you kindly, looks like American Select is used in only low pressure loads, according to That Alliant info. Doc

American Select and the 45 colt

Please forgive me if I am resurrecting an old thread but I just bought a pound of American Select powder for use in my Ruger Blackhawk and Rossi Trapper; both in 45 colt. I have not found much reloading data in my manuals or from alliant for this powder. It is supposed to be between Red and...

Powder Suggestions for .44 Spl and .45LC

I have a couple guns in 45 colt and with 250 gr cast bullets at the velocity your looking for 6.5 gr of Red Dot has worked REAL GOOD for me and economical to boot Doc

    Lever wars.

I'll pick a pre 64 winchester 94; savage 99 ; or pre remington marlin . I have personally had good service and durability with them. Doc

Lever-Action Cartidge w/ Lots of Load Possibilities

I will chime in with a Winchester 94 in 32 special has favored me from shooting paper here to moose in Northern Ontario; with a few whitetail and black bear in-between. My cast bullet loads are both accurate and economical. My iron sighted carbine allows me to consistently hit a 8" x 16"...

    32 Win Special lead loads...

My 1957 Win 94 carbine with 170 gr gc cast bullets sized at .323 gives its best grouping with 29 gr of IMR 3031 at 1975 fps averages. This is the RCBS bullet that weighs 177 gr for my use. I have shot them faster but accuracy trumps speed IMHO. 26 grains is real accurate and not much slower...

Red dot what do you use it for?

One of my favorite powders for 357 mag; 44mag; and 45 colt. A must have on my bench. Doc

    IMR 800-X for handgun reloads

    Winchester .225

I had a model 670 in 1978 in 225 cal and it was a deadly little gun to 300 yds if I did my part. Sold it around 1980.

    Win. model 94

Yes I agree with some posts here. The quality of 64 and later 94's wasn't as bad as some have let on and not near as bad as some examples from another Winchester lever clone gun manufacturer from Brazil. IMHO Doc

have the new 1894 marlins shipped yet???

"to expand on horseman, the guns remington produced were by and large garbage. stripped screws, barrels with sights at the 11 or 1 o'clock positions, poor wood to metal and metal to metal fit, poorly finished internals, dings and scratches on the metal from assembly, it was a mess." Sounds like...

    .32 Winchester Special

I reload with cast bullets for both calibers in similar vintage and condition pre 64 Winchester carbines. My 32spl. shoots more accurately than my 30-30 and I suspect it is the rate of twist with cast loads. In my neck of the woods the old timers preferred the 32 for moose over the 30-30 Doc.

    IMR-4227 burning?

I have NEVER got it to burn completely in my 45 colt revolver or rifles. From min to max powder and crimp. Mag primers as well = crud in barrel. On the plus side it is one of my best powders for accurate loads. In my Winchester 32 special it gives a complete burn and is plenty accurate with...

    Powder letdown. IMR 700x

700X excellent in my lighter 45 colt loads. Burns clean to boot 800X Excellent in my heavy 45 colt loads and a favorite of Ken Waters as well in this caliber. How would 800X work in 32 special? anybody got any experience there? Doc.

What is the best load combo for .45 colt blackhawk and Rossi 92

I have had excellent results with 7.5 grains of Red Dot and 250 RNFP cast bullets in 3 Colt 45 chambered rifles. All 16 inch barrels Chronies at 1085 +- in all. No recoil, clean, economical. Wouldn't hesitate to use as a hunting round at ethical ranges. I am thinking of trying a Magma mold...
