The CCI/Fiocchi 40 grain soft point is death on groundhogs. While I also like the 30 grain V-max and 40 grain HPs, I would think the soft point would be a better option for coyote sized game.

How common are 2.5" 686-4s? I have ran across one for sale but can't find anything to determine if the asking price ($1150) is ok, high, or way high. Either not many were made, or they are being held onto due to be pre-MIM/lock/+.
I have been pleased with a WMR and CCI 40 grain CCI soft points on groundhogs, but I haven't shot any past 100 yds. I think it would have better terminal ballistics and less wind deflection than a HMR.
It's definitely open to officer interpretation. That is why many people I know that don't have a CHP put their handgun on the dash before the officer gets to the vehicle instead of leaving it in the seat.
IMO, without a valid CHP honored by NC, the handgun has to be either plainly visible or in a locked container or locked part of the car. If the case is in the passenger compartment and unlocked, it would be considered concealed and illegal. I would either have the case in the trunk or locked...
Welcome. I don't have personal experience with a Mag spark setup, but have read many positive comments on them, including being able to shoot BH209 successfully. Maybe someone with first hand knowledge can add to the comments.
