How do you know what powder is used in your ammo?

Chemists and ballistics engineers/scientists mix that stuff up to meet a performance standard using whatever is in the bin or that they have available to blend that burns at the rate required. It might not be the same powder or blended powders that they used previously, or a year from now. It...

What was your first gun and do you still have it (them)?

First actual firearm that I held in my hands for any meaningful use, Remington Nylon 66, somewhere around 10 years old(almost 50 years ago). It is in the gun cabinet in this room right now. It is in sad shape from being left leaning up against the back door jamb of my folks house for many...

    The price of admission?

Lee hand press kit(ram prime, funnel, lube etc) $50 Lee deluxe die set $40 Lee scale $20 FA calipers $15 Lee's Modern $20, was the most important tool I bought. All that fit in a small tote I slid under the bed when not using, I loaded at the kitchen table. Not a huge investment at the time...

Breaking News: New York AG seeks to dissolve NRA in new lawsuit

I gave up on the nra a few years ago when I decided that the only reason they seem to want to exist is to fight the battle and not win it, because winning it means no more need for funding the fight and too many people were getting their pockets lined to let that happen. I won't miss them when...

    Cheap Press = Stuck Case?

It is completely user error. One Shot is relatively expensive, 10 bucks for that little can. So folks think it must be used sparingly. The opposite is true. You won't find many, if any posts here nor anywhere else that a user complained things went wrong when using too much One Shot, at...

    Reloading bench question

My bench has a 1/4" raised lip on both sides and the back, with an additional cover plate blocking anything from going down the back side. . The day you dump a flat of primers on your bench will be the first time you will appreciate those little add ons. Since my bench in screwed in to the...

Do You Like Your Lee APP Press

I don't have one, but want one. If a person has a Dillon or LnL with a casefeeder it is easy to piggyback the casefeeder to the APP as long as it is close. The video of the guy decapping 9mm fed from one sold me as soon as I saw it.

    Powder Quantities

I hate spending money needlessly, and since most powders (and primers) have a shelf life of many years, I stock up. If you are a range fun plinker buying pound bottles of powder and a flat of primers at cabelas is upside down and backwards. A check just a couple days ago showed those items...

RCBS 505 scale won't stay still.

Hot glue, and a big chunk of almost anything heavy. I recently saw a pic of a beam scale with a railroad spike secured in the base to stop it from moving.

Can the Lee primer doohickey swage pockets?

I would echo the CH4D set. Once it is set up and and you have everything in easy reach to be efficient, it will leave a dillon super swage behind. Being on the press is a disadvantage to set up every time you want to process brass, but worth it to me as I am only playing with .223 and those...

    Rather Impressed with Lee Precision

It is polishing the apple to pile on how good of a company Lee is, but they have a pretty big market share in the industry because they are great value, not "cheap" Lee and Dillon are the last in line to try to keep most of what they do U.S.A. Everyone else is getting all their castings and...

How to accurize your beam scale?

I have read in the various forums about 'super tuned' beam scales over the years, and it always ruffles feathers when I point out the obvious. A fool and their money, every time. The agate bearing needs to be clean, the fulcrum edge that rides in the bearing should be clean smooth and sharp, and...

    Grumpy old man...

The forum is huge, the search works well, there is no question on general reloading that hasn't been answered time and time again. If they have not bothered to read a manual(the first half with all the words in it) then I don't have a lot of patience either. All you can really do it point out...

How do you guys track of your brass?

The less complicated the better, and the more likely one will do it and not make an error. For pistol no one cares, it splits or gets lost. For rifle I just ziplock the batch and have a scrap of paper in with it noting the times it has been fired, and the load data if I feel the need.

    Paraffin Wax Reloads

Lead styphnate is where we as shooters get lead poisoning from, not melting or casting as many seem to think. Primers. Definitely do not shoot in your living space. Same reason you don't dry tumble in or near your living space. Bad news, for real.

    Very small batch case cleaning.

I have tumblers, but I started loading in a tiny apt years ago. 2 gallon plastic bucket, big plastic spoon. Half full bucket of warm water and a few drops of dish soap, I usually dump in and soak 500 cases for about ten minutes, stir for a minute or so with spoon. Rinse off, shake out excess...

    Question about primer life

A century or two. Unless they corrode they seem pretty indestructible.

By and large, gun cleaning products and lubes are a marketing gimmick.

If you are going above and way beyond the price of rem oil, hoppes, and hoppes solvent and rem drilube, you are throwing money away on that snake oil. Feel free though, it is America.

What to do without a permanent spot?

A google image search for portable reloading shows many excellent ideas. https://www.google.com/search?q=portable+reloading+bench&sxsrf=ALeKk02dI_1Mo6Gc75lXeMjyxNKDfd-72Q:1585855114238&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjX7f7VusroAhXKGM0KHV7UAtQQ_AUoAnoECA0QBA&biw=1590&bih=757&dpr=1.2

    Turret presses ???

You aren't paying attention at all. I only said I have had a love affair with those old hollywood 12 holers for years. They still have the same flaw. Doesn't mean they aren't useful, if you like a center post supported design of turret have at the one that strikes your fancy. . Hell, I...
