    New CZ Varmint .22 LR

If you go to Timneys website there’s only one trigger for the 457. I got the 1# version.

    New CZ Varmint .22 LR

I have the same model, but added a Timney trigger. While the original trigger is ok, the new trigger is superb.

    .280 AI?

I’ve got both, so here goes: - the AI gains 100+ fps. In my case with 140 gn bullets, it almost 200 when I’m comparing my best hunting load. Rifles are different, with the AI having a longer barrel, so that’s some of the increase. Most of the reloading manuals have them within about 100 fps...

Diana Oktoberfest Gewehr had unexpected benefits.

Mine certainly was. I’ve not seen this particular model, but their other lower cost models are made in Germany..

My Newest Rifle, CZ 457 Varmint 22lr

I bought the same rifle a year or so ago. You’ll be very happy with it. You hit the jackpot with that stock, mine isn’t nearly as figured. I put a Timney trigger on mine.

Diana Oktoberfest Gewehr had unexpected benefits.

I have a 22 cal Diana air rifle that can send a 22 cal pellet out the barrel at about 900 fps. Very accurate. Our squirrels have learned to stay off the feeders. Mine is close to 10#’s though so I have to use a support.

How Many of You Shorten Your Stock to Customize LOP?

I shortened the stock on a CZ shotgun. Did the work myself and while it’s not perfect I was happy with it. Since then the number of birds I‘ve taken probably doubled over earlier hunts. I bought the shotgun to hunt with and could care less about resale. That said, I’d have a professional do...

    Scratched a scope again

I’ve never figured out how to keep my hunting scopes in pristine condition. Or my rifles either. I enjoy my time outdoors and don’t worry about the scrapes and scratches. My late father had a very expensive Browning shotgun that saw a lot of use over the years. The dings and scratches remind...

    Sako A7——-gone too soon?

I have 2 models of the A7, Long Range and Big Game, and the Tikka in several calibers. I consider the A7’s superior due to the Roughtech stocks. At that time the Tikka stock wasn’t nearly as nice IMO. Several models of the Tikka now sport the Roughtech stocks, so my choice would different...

what is your favorite do it all rifle

I was going to say one of my 308’s, but after thinking more about it I’d have to go with my CZ 6.5 Grendel. ive shot groundhogs and deer with it, and shot it with great success out to 600 yards at the range. I could do the same with other rifles I own, but not in as small a package. Plus it’s...

Which Guns Would You Pick If You Don't Reload?

I reload about 15 different cartridges. If I couldn’t reload I’d keep my 223, 308 & 6.5CM rifles. I included CM because it was easier to find than 308 in my area. Pistols are easy, I’d keep my 9mm. Of all my rifles, I’d probably miss my 280AI the most.

What rifle and scope would you pick for all your Medium to Big Game hunting, in the lower 48 states?

Either of my 280AI rifles topped with my Tract 2.5-15 FFP scope.

    Which scope 2.5-15x50 or similar

I bought Tract’s new 2.5-15 FFP hunting scope last summer and hunted with it this fall. I now own a second. They‘re my favorite scope.

No more gun shows for me

Shows in our area are by far the best place to source reloading powder. Cheaper than online and no hazmat fee. Prior to the pandemic you could source just about any powder, but since then varieties have been somewhat limited. It’s getting better though.

    Favorite 6.5mm?

I have 5 that are on the list, but if I had to choose I’d go with the Creedmoor mainly because of the availability of good rifles and ammo. The Grendel is a very close second because I enjoy my 527’s. 6.5 Rem Mag was my first.

.280ai and 145 gr Speer Hot-Cor, which powder to start with?

I haven‘t had much luck with 7828SSC with my 280AI, but I’ve not tried it on bullets lighter than 160 grains. I did find a good load for the Speer 160’s I have. This was the second load I tried. 0.3 grains more and the group opened up to almost 2”. Bullet is seated about 20/1000 off the...

.280ai and 145 gr Speer Hot-Cor, which powder to start with?

I got a 280 AI about a year ago. I tried Hornady 180’s and 162’s, Speer 160’s and Nosler 140 CT’s. I have good loads for the Hornady 180’s and the Noslers. I am using IMR 4831 for the Noslers and IMR 4350 for the 180’s. I’m running tests tomorrow on the 160’s with IMR 4350. In addition to...

Bergara Premier HMR PRO in 6.5 Creed. Pros and Cons?

While I don’t have the HMR Pro, I do have the Bergara Approach In 6.5 CM. It’s basically the same rifle with a different stock. I also have the several other models of the “Premier” line. I’ll second everything ‘Loon said. I’ll add that in my experience with Bergaras I’ve found they seem...
