    Cheapest gun you've ever bought

My first shotgun, a 16 gauge bolt action, that I bought from the next door neighbor for $50. I was 7 at the time. I don’t shoot her much anymore. But she’s got a special place in my heart!

    Ruger SP101 convertible in .22/.22WMR

My only .22 convertible is a Liberty model Single Six. I have not noticed any degradation of accuracy with the long rifle cylinder. That said, the revolver, with any load seems to be far more accurate than I am. I’ve successfully hunted rabbits with it out to 30 or 40 yards. Which, for me...

    What is your favorite gun

Like most others stated, it’s really tough to pick one. But the rifle I’d grab first for most anything, is my Ruger GSR in 5.56. With the Leupold Mark AR 1.5x4, it’s almost like shooting a laser. For a shotgun, it would have to be one of my Browning’s. Either the A5, or the BPS upland special...

Does the vehicle play into a “truck gun”

It definitely depends on the vehicle for me. My truck has a .357 Blackhawk in a soft case under the seat, and a .357 levergun behind the seat. The Jeep is usually whatever is on my belt or in my pocket. Since it doesn’t ever wear the doors, I get nervous about leaving anything in there. I’ve...

Bow Hunter Failure - Mauled by Bear

A friend of mine tells a story where he and his father were following a friend (we’ll call him Joe) in a pickup truck. Presently a small deer runs out in front of Joes truck and gets hit. Times being hard and all, a deer down meant meat, so the deer goes into the back of joes truck, and for some...

Bought a Smith and Wesson 19 twice

I might would have let the wife go as well if she dropped a nice 19 and scratched and dented it.

    Combo guns

I bought a Savage model 24 chambered in .22 lr/410 from a coworker for much of nothing. I ended up giving it to my sister as a Christmas gift. I still regret giving it away. Though I don’t know why, because it’s still in my safe!

    Finially, My Own Ruger 77/357!

If I ever run across a decent used one I’ll probably pick it up. Since I only have 8 other .357’s at this time, I definitely need one.

    'Scout' Rifle: Where to start?

I have the Ruger GSR but mine is chambered in 5.56 mm. With the laminate stock, it’s not very light. But it’s not a concern as I don’t carry the thing miles at a time. It’s incredibly accurate too. Shooting off a lead sled it held one hole groups at 100 yards. I took the forward rail off, put...

    I’m a Cowboy now 1895– Marlin 45/70

I was looking for one for a while. But instead I got a marlin 1895 M chambered in .450 marlin. A friend of mine had 2 for sale so I figured why not. Each round sounds like thunder rolling through the trees! I just wish .450 was as available as .45-70. And it’s not like you find .450 brass just...

    .44 carbine

My dad has an older 1894 marlin that shoots very well. I would pick up one if I could find one. I also recently found a Browning m92. I haven’t shot it yet, so I can’t speak for accuracy. But the fit and finish is superb. Not a .44 but I have a .357 Rossi 92. While I do like it, I like both...

Considering lasik surgery to help sight alignment and focus, share your thoughts please.

I had lasik done on both eyes last year, and so far I have loved it! Wish I had it done years ago. I was pretty rough on glasses. They were forever getting scratched up. Now its not even a concern. It helped out with shooting as well. Not always having scratched up lenses to look through really...

    Po' Boy Defense

While home defense wasn’t my intent, my first center fire hand gun I would have trusted for the task was a Dan Wesson model 15 .357 with a 5” barrel. I must have been about 14 or 15 when I bought that thing. At the time I felt like I had a cannon! Now it mostly just resides in the safe. I just...

One gun you regret selling and...

The gun I most regret selling was a stainless Marlin .22 mag bolt action rifle. Sold it to my dad shortly after the .17 hmr came out. And I just had to have a .17. Well he turned around and sold off the .22 mag, for no apparent reason. Anyway, several years later, the gentleman who had purchased...

    Ruger Hawkeye vs M77

I have one of the 5.56 Ruger Gunsite Scouts, topped with a leuopold mark at 1-4x24. I believe the model is a M77 GSR. Off a bench, at 100 yards, it shot groups that my friend who was spotting told me I missed the whole entire target. On further inspection, we found that it was shooting into one...

    Multi tools

Having owned quite a few multi tools in the past, I would say find the model of a Leatherman that has the features you require. I have had many in the past, and still have at least 4. One stays in my pocket at all times, one for the tackle box, etc.

Bought, then sold, then bought again?

Just once, I think. I cant remember the model # off the top of my head, but it was a stainless Marlin .22 mag with a tubular magazine. I sold it to my dad, who promptly sold it to a mutual friend of ours. Maybe a year later, the friend called out of the blue wanting to sell it back for what he...

    Model 66 no dash.

I have a question about a Smith & Wesson of mine. It's a .357 mag model 66 with a 2.5" barrel length. When I bought it, the gentleman made a big deal about " it's a model 66 no dash!" What does the absence of a dash in the model numbers on a Smith & Wesson mean? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Trigger wobble in marlin lever action. Is this normal?

Sounds normal to me. I dont remember right off hand about the 336 but I know marlin 1894's all have that "famous" marlin trigger flop. I've heard some people just can't stand it and upgrade to an aftermarket trigger that eliminates that. It never really bothered me cause the trigger seems nice...

    Can't decide between 4 and 6 inch 357 magnum

I prefer shorter barrels personally. Not to brag or anything but I've pulled off better shots with my Smith 66 with a 2.5" barrel than some people I've seen with rifles.
