    Bear Grylls/Gerber Parang

There a big difference between Gerber of twenty years ago and Gerber of today. They used to be a quality product, with decent steel and heating treatment. Nowadays it cheap crap especially since they sold the brand name.

    Bow hunting for beginners?

I tend to prefer recurve bows for such things too. I just find compound bows, even though they have a lighter pull to be too busy and distract. I tend to not enjoy all the addons either and go with more primitive bow technology setup. The best thing I ever did was design and build my own archery...

Why do gun dealers like to jack up the prices?

If anything prices have been dropping in the stores steadily for the past couple of years after they realised that the Government wasn't going to come and take everyone's guns away and stick them in concentration camps. Those were good times indeed for gauging on the price. Give it a little...

What is wrong with a bayonet lug?

They were doing stuff to get rid of the bayonet lug long before then. It was a major part of the restrictions in the 1989 importation ban for instance and they were trying to add it to laws restricting back in the 80s. The 1994 law just solidified a long held mistrust in bayonet lugs.

Has the gun market been revivified

What I seen basically is a massive increase in the sale of second hand weapons in the paper in particular. The local ads are filled with AR-15s that people spent $1500 on and now trying to recoup some money on since they have non left for $700 and still trying to struggle. I also seeing more...

    Japanese Officer's Sword value?

I should try and do some photos of my Japanese swords. One is a standard NCO sword and the other is a family sword. One was taken off of Iwo Jima and the other is from the main land Japan's occupation by my uncle, so I am pretty confidant to not being fake. I could never sell them though. They...

    Leatherman or Victorinox

I guess the biggest advantage on the Swiss Tool is its finish. That thing is perhaps the most resistant to corrosion of any multitool I ever seen. Works really well for things like bug out bags, canoeing and kayaking, and prolonged time out in the wilderness but has everything I need in an urban...

Pocket Knives-Who feels naked without one?

When I am in the shower I do not have a knife on me, and I feel very naked then. I have the same sensation when in bed doing naughty stuff with my wife. She disapproves of me bringing a knife to bed with us. Other than that I guess...

    Modern Mosin-Nagant based rifles...

Great, it give the pawn store owner around here another story to try and sell his $75 Mosins with a Bushnell scout scope mounted on the rear sight for $700 like he been trying to do.

    suggestions: folder for the girlfriend.?.?

ojsmoothy: My wife is partial to her Kershaw folder. Its pretty slim and has a nice sharp blade. My wife is the same. She loves the Kershaw Leek. She lost her one, so has borrowed mine until such time as I go out and buy her a new one. Of course I already got her the rainbow leek she wanted...

How Many are Now Carrying a Cane?

I occasionally carry a cane or walking stick when out hiking or in the forest, but thats about it really. It is more for balance than anything protective so far.

    Enfield vs. Mauser

I would go with the Lee Enfield for the above stated reasons, but also add a few more... It is far easier to field repair and deal with headspace issues for one by simply swapping over the bolt head. Sure some Mauser designs like the P14/M1917 and so on incorporated such features but then...

Why do people say "Don't carry a knife"?

This is nothing really new. The Victorians were bitching about people carrying knives and daggers around with them so we got the invention of flatware, because so one may use that nasty knife. They probably blamed it on spicy food encouraging masturbation that led to the inevitable murder...

    My New EDC.

My wife lost a Kershaw Leek that was clipped into her pocket, but that was with trousers that where very slippery to begin with. I would recommend not using clips if wearing the likes of 1970s polyester jumpsuits when going disco dancing.

Great Deal Alert! Walmart Kershaw Skyline blowout

The Kershaw Skyline is a really nice discount knife. I found the ergonomics and grip on it to be fantastic and a great blade shape for it's size. The opening mechanism is pretty good. I would have preferred it to be assisted opening, but it works fine as is. For $25 you can't really go wrong.

    Upcoming anti-gun legislation in Congress.

Pretty much this. Our gun ownership rights have increased substantially over the past year or so, but it doesn't bring in much money to suggest that there no big threats around right now. If anything, I expect gun control laws to get more lax over the next couple of years. It certainly...

    Pawn Shop Rifle

There are better deal around there. I would second looking at Savage. They are a really good bargain rifle brand, that while they don't have all the fancy refinements in the stocks and so on, will give you excellent accuracy and action. Still doesn't compare to the pawn store selling their...

Dad's rifles were stolen last month (true story)

I hate it when that happens. My uncle's firearms got stolen by one guy he tried to help out. He got them all back luckily but the authentic Kentucky rifle that been in the family for as long as they have been in the US. My uncle of course caught him running away with them, so he did the only...

Are ebay and PayPal anti gun?

Ebay use an automatic script and it probably saw the firearm names and flagged it for removal, rather than the holsters themselves. I bought numerous holsters from Ebay without a problem. Ebay have to be careful with the international part of their business and liability insurance.

    notebook/pad

I use a notebook typically for my longer range shooting. It nice to write conditions down, wind, calculations and so on when shooting at 500 yards. Even more so when doing so with iron sights. Right now I use a small moleskin covered notepad for that sort of stuff.
