Spotting Scope Tripod - Hi-Power and Garand Matches

I have a Ray-vin with the quick detach mount and I love it. The QD mount saves wear and tear on the scope threads too. You won't be disappointed with a Ray-Vin stand, Ray and Ruby are great folks and will take good care of you.

    Service rifle sling

It may be a little counterintuitive for you to learn how to shoot high power, then go off to the Guard and have Uncle Sam re-teach you how to shoot. The military will probably teach you how to shoot differently than a high power shooter will. That said, for an AR, you want a 54" or so sling...

Chattahoochee Rifle Club/USAMU high power clinic

The USAMU and the CRC are holding a high power rifle clinic on Feb 9-10, 2008. This clinic is geared for beginner to intermediate shooters. Topics to be covered are shooting positions, sight alignment, trigger control, sling and equipment usage. Recommended ammo to bring is as follows: 60...

    ICORE pros and cons

Pros - You get to shoot stuff. :) I don't shoot any pistol action type stuff, but I figure anything where you get to get outside and shoot something can't be all bad.

NRA High Power Rifle "Match Rifle"

Does it have iron sights? Does it hold at least five rounds and is capable of being rapidly reloaded by means of detachable mags or stripper clips? Is it safe to fire? If so, then hell yes, it's legal. :) Just check "Match Rifle" on your SR1 card and you'll be good to go. Dry fire...

15 minute AR trigger job, anyone done it?

Just remember that really light triggers in semi automatic rifles is generally a bad idea. It's not really a good idea to tweak an AR trigger if you don't know what you're doing, so just be careful.

Has anyone broken clays in flight with a rifle? (with proper backstop of course)

It takes a few tries, but I can get 'em with my Marlin 60 when they're bouncing across the ground, rabbits I guess that's what they're called. I haven't tried throwing them up in the air since I don't really have a suitable backstop for that.

    Norinco M305 (M14)

Metallurgically, they're supposed to be great. The "Made in China" part kinda bothers me, and I have a really nice Springfield National Match that'll likely outlast me and a generation or two.

Bolt or AR, which has better accuracy with .308?

Tubb hung the SR25 up a long time ago. He's shooting a bolt gun, his own design, the Tubb 2000. That said, an autoloader - an AR15 no less - won Camp Perry overall this year, so take that for what it's worth.

    Ideal Rifle Balance

Weight and balance is a very personal thing. Experiment and run whatever works best for you. On my service rifle ARs, I like them to balance right around the delta ring, with maybe just a tad bias towards the muzzle. They weigh somewhere around 12-13 lbs unloaded.

    What kind of safe?

I have a small Liberty Centurion. Weighs about 450 lbs empty and it's getting full way too fast...always buy more safe than you think you'll need.

    Educate me on lever actions

I dunno about the Guns that Won the West, but I really like Marlins. Winchester 94s just don't do it for me, Marlins feel better in my hands.

Can an accurate B/A like a Savage 10FP....

Yessir it can. With the 1:9 twist, you're probably gonna be limited to the Hornady 75gr HPBT (not the AMAX), but it'll get out there. The 77 Sierras may work - they didn't out of my 10FP.
  14. Q

    1/7 or 1/9 twist?

I say lean on the faster side of twist rates available. With a 1:7, you can shoot any bullet that can be seated in a case at mag length, and most bullets that can't.
  15. Q

    1:7 vs. 1:9 twist

I don't know about faster twists wearing barrels out quicker. A worn out barrel is subjective; a "worn out" barrel for a competitive NRA high power rifle shooter is one that's not even broken in for the average joe that does most of his shooting within 100 yards. 1:7 or 1:9 will stabilize a 62...

    Twist rate/bullet weight in AR-15

I've shot 52gr SMKs out of a 1:8 with good results. A crappy bullet isn't gonna fly as well as a match grade bullet no matter what the twist rate is. A friend of mine shot those 55 grain Winchesters at a local high power match and couldn't hold the target at 300 yards.

Rookie SF police officer shoots himself to death while fooling with "unloaded" gun!

The four rules, the four rules, the four rules, the four rules. Damn shame.

What scope to put on M1A supermatch ???

I too say use the iron sights provided. Unless your eyes have problems picking up the front sight.

First service competition AR (posted on other boards)

Another thing you should consider, browse around on the high power boards for used stuff. A guy just sold a killer service rifle (RRA lower, Geissele trigger, White Oak upper with pinned sights, Hart 1:7, blah, blah, blah) for like $900 on Nationalmatch.us High power guys ain't gonna sell...

    Wave bye bye to eBay

EBay is a world wide operation...I don't think Meg Whitman's gonna lose too much sleep at night knowing a handful of shooters aren't gonna do business with them anymore.
