I really doubt that a 40 will die because the 10mm is making a comeback and they are capable of shooting the 40 also. I shoot 40 for targets while carrying 10mm but I have a 40 barrel for it.
I carry Underwood 10mm 200 XTP in my Glock 29. They carry plenty of energy and not smack my hand like the Uw 180s does. It's a powerful round still.
Hornady 10mm 175 FlexLocks are excellent medium loads for carry too.
Clearing the gun once is not enough, it's 3x for me. I wanna make damn sure it's not loaded. I made this video for a friend to prove my point.
Hmm... I have no audio, did you?
Some people doesn't know about the ejector on a revolver like my friend. I saw him trying to pick the casings out of the cylinder that I asked him,
"What are you doing?"
"I'm getting the shells out so I can put new bullets in it."
"Well, push on this rod then."
"Oh, that's how it works."
As I became more experienced with guns I adopted my own rules on gun safety. I'd say that as rule #1 it is, "It's safer to assume that the gun is loaded rather than not loaded so treat it as such."
Even if you cleared it already it's still safer to assume that it's loaded than not. Why? Because...
That is virtually a fact, I know I would. Lots of people buy 9mm for their capacities but limit them to something like 10 rnds or less and they'll go for the big bores.
You're right about the 9mm pistols being chambered for 40sw. That was a bad idea and as a result, abandoned. If they were made for 40sw like the HK USP for example they will be proven better than 9mm. I have a Glock G29 with a 40sw barrel and a stouter recoil spring (to handle the 9x25 Dillon)...
