What is the last gun that you bought?

Just got a Glock 41 MOS. Love it. I have a Trijicon RMR I've yet to mount. Old eyes require compromise.

Big Sigh. I'm getting old(er) and my rifle shows it

The older I get, the better I was. Yep. It's frustrating. I've had lots of eye problems that affected my ability to shoot with irons. Before my retinal surgeries and cataracts, I tried Merit optical attachments, and holes in black tape. They worked for awhile. Then I used old glasses...

I enrolled in sniper school, for free.

Thanks. Very interesting and easy to digest. Maybe this was mentioned elsewhere, but if you're one of those people who likes to read and take notes, like myself, you can Google a free version of Army FM 3-05.222. "Special Forces Sniper Training and Employment." It's from 2003, but has...

    loads for AR-10 carbine

In the 2014 Hodgdon Annual Reloading Manual, there's an article on reloading for the AR-10. It's by Lane Pearce. The article starts on page 42. He tested a variety of popular powders and bullets. One very accurate load was 43.5 gr of IMR 4064 behind a Sierra 168 gr HPBT in Lapua brass...

Lee Classic Cast, Breech Lock or not?

I use a Lee Classic Cast with 4 hole turrets. I bought some extra turrets for about $10.00 each and set up each one in the calibers I load frequently. With a simple twist, the turret comes out, and I pop the next one in. Keeps from having to continually screw the dies all the way in or out...

    Virginia open carry policy?

The replies above have provided plenty of good URLs. However, I would also consider a copy of "The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide." It is a good reference and has been updated. It covers almost everything you can think of that pertains to VA gun ownership, including the ownership of automatic...

    .30-06 Milsurp not reloadable?

I've used hand tools to ream, but like some of the guys above, I now prefer the RCBS swager that I use with an old Lee single-stage press. The article referenced above is by cag215 is pretty thorough. Here's what it looks like...

Quitting caffeine is now a mental disorder - could this be held against you?

Some of these APA diagnostic changes are nuts. They have a diagnostic category for people who are grieving because of the death of a loved one. Heck, who doesn't get sad when a loved one dies, and there's a lot of work involved in burying people and settling their affairs. So when does...

    357 maximum questions

I too have a 10" Contender barrel in this caliber. When I shot IMHSA some years ago, I liked the fact that it was very flat shooting round. You could shoot chicken targets at 50m, and with little change in elevation (two clicks) hit the rams at 200, and it had plenty of energy to knock them...

How old were you when you got your first gun?

At age 12 I was given a German Simson-Suhl Boy's Rifle. It is a single shot .22. It was one of the firearms my father brought back from Germany after WWII. It was found in some area where the Hitler Youth were trained in marksmanship. I still have it. Shot lots of small game with it when young.

    D.C Protest

I doubt this protest will come to pass. I'm with those who feel this idea is foolish and potentially destructive to our cause. D.C. has very strict gun control laws and will arrest people and seize weapons with little provocation. As for precedent, here's what happened to an Iraq war vet, who...

    AR's - Windham?

There are lots of folk who have a favorite AR brand to meet specific needs. I'm assuming you're just looking for a well-made rifle to use for general shooting and possible self defense. I like the Windham I bought. I got a Windham MPC for under $800.00 OTD from a LGS over a year ago. It...

    Instinct/Point Shooting

I'm not sure which resources you have. I have a 1959 book by M.C. Jennings titled "Instinct Shooting." It's about Lucky McDaniel and his system. I'll recap here for those who've never heard of the system. The exercises in the book require a separate thrower since the beginning shooter was...

Be careful what you wish for - the problem with the "mental health" issue

From my perspective the real problem is with those situations where someone has come in contact with the mental health system, expressed violent intent toward oneself or others and then fallen through the cracks, due to a privacy issue or simple inactivity by authorities. These people need to...

    Getting back into reloading

I also got back into shooting and reloading when I retired. However, I had saved my equipment and had a good stock of components. Even though my stuff was well used, it is still very functional. I ended up buying a digital scale and a few other newer items, but I'd say that older equipment...

Do you trust your reloading memoy?

No. Like many of the other guys, I use logs and notes and always double check myself, particularly if I'm interrupted during a reloading session. Age is not a friend to memory. I have to compensate.

Stop Buying Ammo For a Month...

I reload, so I can shoot some, though I won't burn through hundreds of rounds during a visit to the range. As for supplies, at the local WM, a 24 hour store, the fella who manages ammo told me that people show up at midnight with other folk to buy up what he gets. LGS told me the same...

Bloomberg is going to be a huge threat when he's done being mayor of NY

There are a lot of gun owners in this country, and if we're in the contest for the long haul, we will beat these attacks back. Say what you will about the NRA, but they are our loudest, best known voice. They play a key role in representing our interests and fighting paranoia with facts...

Going Turkey hunting for first time ever

Most of the stuff I used to take has been covered above by RCModel. I have a Mossberg 835 (12 GA) and used 3.5" turkey loads and full choke. Before you go, you will want to get a paper turkey target and pattern your gun at different ranges with your hunting loads and chokes. It would be...
