Looking for a Handgun for Work

Yes. I asked for the requirements in writing, and they referred me to the website of a local range which offers the security firearm qualification classes. The police department says that the manual I was given is old and outdated, and that they don’t have the current regulations online yet...

    Considering this S&W Model 10

I’m going for a smaller 9mm for my job, but in my jurisdiction, if someone wants to work as an armed courier, they must carry a .38 special, although they also get to carry a 12 gauge shotgun. So, I’m thinking of this as a possible investment in a potential future job, if I ever decide to go...

    Considering this S&W Model 10

Yes. I think that I would actually prefer that. But I have not found one yet. I might find one if I look in more local pawn shops.

    Considering this S&W Model 10

I thought that this could be the case, but I wasn’t sure. Now, is it normal for a properly aligned revolver to have significant lead buildup in the chambers? I’ve only ever owned long guns, aside from one snub-nose that I no longer have and shot rarely.

    Considering this S&W Model 10

Are there nicer Model 10’s at a comparable price point?

    Considering this S&W Model 10

I am considering purchasing this model 10 as a fun gun, and, perhaps in the future, for work. I currently work as a security guard, and if I were to ever get involved in being an armed courier, I would be required in my jurisdiction to carry a .38 revolver. As such, this seemingly well used...

Level III retention holster for a revolver

I’m price shopping for a level III retention holster for a revolver. Options seem sparse. I remember hearing that Safariland makes one. Does anyone know of some that I may be unaware of?

Looking for a Handgun for Work

Are there any security companies with a reputation for professionalism? Because I am not getting that vibe from mine today for multiple reasons. One guy sent to relieve me had his gun out of his holster and loose in a bag when he showed up. I told him that was dangerous, since the trigger...

Looking for a Handgun for Work

They have at least the training that the police department makes us get. It doesn’t seem terribly deep, from the little I’ve heard. A co-worker who carries a revolver told me that she learned how to use speed-loaders and spent time on a range shooting at stationary targets. So, it does not...

Looking for a Handgun for Work

When they decide to get me armed, I’ll find out with certainty, and get it in writing.

    Nope. Not a catcher’s mitt.

Looking for a Handgun for Work

I greatly appreciate your advice. Interestingly, I saw in a news a few weeks ago that a security guard was involved in a lethal force incident. A patron of a convenience store was messing around, and refusing to leave or something like that, and ended up grabbing the guard’s gun. They...

Looking for a Handgun for Work

I just went to a gun shop and felt some guns in my hand. The Glock 19 Gen 3, Steyr M9 A2, and the Walther PDP all felt quite nice and naturally balanced. The employee at the store said that security in my area are in fact limited to revolvers that are strictly .38 special, so no 357s loaded...

Looking for a Handgun for Work

I am not solo. There will be a few others on post. The gun is not to protect property, but solely to protect our persons. I will also be carrying mace. This is said to be a quiet post, although there is a homeless encampment outside the company property and the fence line. Now, the...

Looking for a Handgun for Work

I have some time before I have to get a weapon. They are sending me unarmed to feel out the job before they get me a weapons qualification.

Looking for a Handgun for Work

My company does reimburse for the weapon purchase. If I were to go with a revolver - and I may not do so - then I would probably get something like a S&W Model 10 or Model 64. They seem reasonably priced, are reliable, and have been proven in many real-life situations.

Looking for a Handgun for Work

I was told that companies with unreliable reputations like Taurus wouldn’t be approved.

Looking for a Handgun for Work

I don’t know what it means either. I know the regulations say double action only on the semi-auto. And the guy in the office at work told me - I think - either he was imprecise with his terminology or I have forgotten some words - that the semi cannot have an exposed hammer. I have a vague...
